Very lively with lots of bars and restaurants, the evenings were a bit chilly if you happen to be sitting outside in the open.

There aren't many places in the world where you have two religious objects attached together. I saw such Churches in Portugal, but Cathedrals I don't recall I did.
That's just the case here in Salamanca.
The old Romanesque/Gothic Cathedral was built after defeating the Moors in 12c. However, with establishing Spain's oldest University across it, over the time with population growth it became small, so they started a new Cathedral to build right beside the existing one in 16c. The new Cathedral was finished in 18c, after 200 years, in Gothic/Baroque.
Entry (includes both of them) is 10 Euros. If you strictly follow the audio guide it will take almost hour and a half. What really annoyed me, already not so cheap fee I mentioned does not include climbing the Ieronimus bell tower which is extra 5 - too greedy imo, so we didn't climb it and therefore deduct one star.

One of Spain's most charming towns. Only 2 hrs drive from huge Madrid will reward you with exploring this tranquil charming and beautiful town.
The old town is very compact and very walkable. Outstanding attractions include the old Romanesque 12 c Cathedral and attached to it the new Gothic/Baroque 18c, as well Spain's oldest University (3rd in Europe).
On the southern edge of the Old town is the Roman bridge dating back to 1st century, with two magnificent Monasteries along the way....enjoy

An amazing old building, nicely restored and put to good use. Some lovely old exhibits ( really liked the clown pics by Celso Lagar) but why not allowed to take pictures?

Also, seeing pictures of old balustrade and roof makes me sad. Yes the refurbished items are classy but that old classic design is now lost forever.

Don’t miss the cafe / bar at rear for refreshments. Lovely spot
