- Sally1996H6 contributionsMaria is incredible, we had the best time cooking with her. My friend and I learnt so much, spent the entire evening laughing along with the other 3 people in the class and enjoyed cooking the most delicious food.
The class was a highlight of our time in Mallorca.Written March 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We started in the local market where we sourced all of our ingredients for the lunch that we would be cooking. Deborah is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the food and culture of Mallorca. Our preferred way to experience a new culture or place is through food, and Deborah did not disappoint. The meal that we made was not only delicious but also very approachable to make (we are less than stellar cooks). We enjoyed a delicious multi-course lunch with local wines and would HIGHLY recommend this tour.Written September 12, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NorthenStarsLiberec Region, Czech Republic14 contributionsI booked this cooking class with my boyfriend, because we have enjoyed Spanish food on our travels around Spain. I wasn't sure how it would go with my husband.
We were very much 'hands-on' with the process of cooking. Susy and Juanjo would give us tasks to do, and whilst we did that they would explain the history of the dishes we were cooking.
Dámaris taught us a few tricks to make sure our dishes came out perfectly, and she taught us the right way to make Salmorejo. Turns out I'd been making it wrong at home so now I can make it properly. - So much better!
Once our dishes were all complete, we sat down with them and Dámaris was singing, awesome voice! and enjoyed an awsome meal. It all tasted amazing, like nothing else I'd experienced in Spain. I had tried paella at a restaurant in Spain a couple of days previously, but Juanjo's Paella was ten times better ...pure heaven.
I'd definitely recommend this tour - it took around 5 hours, but you'll probably want to go back to repeat.Written March 15, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although i've heard that the other instructor is very good and professional, I would not recommend taking the course from Katy.
First, the galley was very dirty. There was rotten food on the counters when we started and remained there for the entire two week duration of the course. There was also a rotten fish head in the fridge for two weeks as well that smelled very strongly.
We did not get many fresh ingredients to cook with. When the herbs wilted, no fresh ones were supplied. The dairy went bad and we were missing key ingredients from the recipes we we're suppose to be cooking.
We were told we couldn't use tinfoil to wrap the food we made to take home.
We also had to clean everything our selves as the staff sat down and had a coffee.
It seemed like after paying 1750€ for a 10 day course that these money saving techniques were not fair to impose.
The instructor was incredibly difficult to work with. Her English was difficult to understand and it seemed that she did not care to be there. We were very excited to do this course and came with positive, keen attitudes.
She lacked teaching methods - she took over and cooked a lot of the meals herself. As a teacher myself, I know the important a of hands on learning, which is what was advertised in the course syllabus.
She also ended the course early everyday and even cancelled one day.
After the first week all the students got together and requested that we stay until the end of each day and had instruction all the way through. This was not granted. In fact, Katy refused to teach us plating techniques which was part of the course syllabus.
When the course came to and end, she threw are certifications on the table and said "just because I'm giving you this does not mean you know how to cook".
She also threatened to call immigration on us if we did not supply her with the address of our hotel. We were perfectly legal to be in the country and this was strange and unnecessary.
I felt i did not learn anything new at this course.
The only thing I learned was how to deal with a bully.
On a side note, we've hear the instructor teaching the advanced course is very good.Written February 20, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
