This is an example of how an archaeological museum should be: massively informative without being dry, totally amenable to all ages and expertise without dumbing-down or gimmicks. The week I visited, they had a superb exhibition about Nomad rider warriors in Europe. I will be back to see what they do next and to enjoy the permanent exhibition once again.

    FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!

Absolutely great I highly recommend visiting here. The memorabilia is huge utterly unbelievable amount of history and memories for other vintage lovers. Myself and my husband did this day on our anniversary evening. Enjoyed it so throughly every aspect of the day - WE HAVE ALREADY REBOOK OUR SECOND EXPERIENCE!

This is a beautiful church, but for us the highlight was the large organ. It is impressive. We happened to visit while the organist (who is very good!) was practicing, so we had in effect a free 30-minute organ concert. If you like organ music, it would be worthwhile checking if there are any concerts during your stay in Halle. Apparently there often are, at 4 PM on Tuesdays.

There is a second small organ in the loft facing east; that is the organ that Handel took lessons on.

The church itself is was beautiful. Since it is right off the Martkplatz, it's worth visiting if you are in Halle.

Perhaps Halle's Marktplatz is not my most favourite one out of all I have seen so far. And let's put it down to the cloudy weather:)

This was a very interesting museum. I had reasonable idea of Handel's life, but the museum filled in many details, and also gave a sense of the environment in which he grew up, and how that contributed to his music. It's a very worthwhile museum for anyone who is interested in Baroque/classical music.

The other aspect of the museum is an extensive collection of musical instruments, which are organized in such a way that they help illustrate how the instruments have evolved over time.

We spent about 1 1/2 hours here, and could have spent more if it had not been close to closing time. There's lots to see!

I came on a cold day so the African animals seemed kind of sad. The chimp in particular was sort of neurotically pitiful. And the cats in the small cages were kind of sad too. I am more used to the San Diego zoo that has more space. On the positive side the grounds and gardens were beautiful. It is worth a walk up to the tower to see a good view of the city.

This complex of buildings is a very important church-history-filled place - which comes a bit short if you take one of the tours. BUT - it's definitely a place you should see, especially since it is still used, still full of life in its originally intended way: As a school-town.

I would not have known of the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg, had it not been for an article in my paper.
The large special exhibition combines top-class masterpieces from international collections with works that have rarely or not been shown before, at all. It is one of the highlights in Saxony-Anhalt in the jubilee year "100 Years Bauhaus".
Until 1933, the collection of the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale) was considered one of the leading in Germany in regards of contemporary art - today's classic modernism. The Kunstmuseum was then considered equal to the Collection of modern Art at the Berlin National Gallery in the Crown Prince's Palace "Unter den Linden".
With Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, the systematic suppression of contemporary art quickly spread throughout Germany.Sanctions were created to forbid the exhibition and even the creation of any contemporary art not approved by the Nazi Party; such work was labeled, along with the artists who created it, as “degenerate.”
The action "Degenerate Art" of the National Socialists in the summer of 1937 put an end to the collection and 147 works were confiscated and "abducted" .Some sold to private persons, mostly abroad.
For the period of three and a half months in 2019, nearly 40 of the lost works of art are returned as loans from public and private international collections. Together with more than 300 works of art, which were not not confiscated in 1937,the collection of yesteryear is restored until January 12th in 2020

The Special exhibition of the "visiting works" is curated extraordinarily well. It is a delight to walk the magnificent halls of the Moritzburg.

The Regular exhibition of the museum can also be seen - and is worth a wander.

A delighful find is the cabinet on the second floor of the northwest tower, with the work of the Halle painter Albert Ebert (1906-1976).

The museum shop has a lovely range of books and souvenirs, many of the books are surprisingly affordable. At the Café near the store one can try the tasty cakes of the region.

It’s a monument in the middle of the square. The square itself is interesting and close to a lot of local food and drink areas.

The old walls of this cemetery make you feel peacefully distant from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The old architecture and carvings are quite beautiful. There are many old graves here, but also some very recent ones, so be respectful if you visit.

Discovered Halle opera during the Handel festival 2022 and have returned to every production since then. An 'unsung' (!) centre of excellence, with a young, talented and versatile ensemble: to see the same team in Handel, Britten, Richard Strauss, Mozart Gounod and more is an absolute delight. The productions have been thought-provoking but never aggressively counter to the essence(s) of the works. I hope they can hold on for a few more years to talents like Sokolik and Waldhart and others - to have this fine place and the Leipzig house only half an hour's train journey apart is a real privilege for Opera lovers in this fascinating part of Germany.
