Bucket list item for sure. This is our second visit and loved it even more. They have a also expanded with another wing. Every scene is so captivating. The more time you spend, the more intricate details you discover. They have also made it interactive with lots of buttons to press to trigger some actions - great for kids ❤️ it’s good to get tickets online to avoid the wait time and also we learnt when we were there that they do limited guided tours in English. We would have loved to do that as they take you into areas that are not for public access. On our list for the next time. Easily one of the highlights of our Europe trip.

Good friend recommended us to go. This place confronts you with how life would be if you are unable to see or hear. Enriching experience.

The IMM is located in a beautifully restored warehouse in the so called HafenCity area, close to the historic harbor area. Paid parking is available in nearby parking garages, but a better option may be to use the excellent public transportation in Hamburg.

The museum was founded about 20 years ago by a number of German companies and foundations, most of them within the shipping industry. Peter Tamm senior played an important role in establishing the museum, and his impressive donations of exhibits are the backbone of this impressive museum.

Trade and shipping have always been important to the city of Hamburg and this museum is a definitely a worthy representative. In total nine decks of exhibits are on show and it is possible to spend many hours here, but also necessary to make some choices. A must see is the brilliant and very impressive Lego model of Queen Mary 2.

A well stocked gift shop, a bistro, and a café are also available and we really enjoyed our visit here.

I'm not the biggest Udo Lindenberg fan but beeing in Hamburg made me visiting the museum. And I really enjoyed it. It's not so much a museum than a show. And it's done great. Lots of interaction and the time just flies by. Big recommendation.

Have visited before, but went again as the exhibitions are excellent, both for a family with the Sesame Street exhibition, and for adults only the Guerrilla Girls exhibition. The former will fill you with joy, the latter will make you angry, the women still do not get equality in the art world. Overall excellent place to visit.

Gives a great insight into what serving in a submarine is like: literally working and living amongst machinery and metal structures with zero privacy. Our visit did not include access to the control room as that was part of the tour, in German only, and we were tight on time. Information was scant but for me, the experience of moving through the cramp spaces from one end of the ship to the other and having to negotiate a path in a 1.3 metre walkway through portholes with other visitors was a taster of what the submariners had to endure.

You do need to be reasonably fit and supple as there are steep stairs/ladders to climb and portholes to crawl or swing through feet first. 1.3 metres (3 feet) is about the maximum width. My advice is to wear shoes and do not carry a bag or backpack.

I had been looking forward to this visit since I didn't have time available on my previous trip to Hamburg. I enjoyed the first of the three exhibition buildings, but not so much the 2nd and 3rd.

The first building is a history of BallinStadt including the man, Ballin, and his vision for a city for those waiting to immigrate and the buildings and experience of the émigrés. This was quite interesting. The posted information is in German, but we used the audio guide in English. This mostly satisfied us although there were artifacts in building 2 that had no English explanations available.

The 2nd building was a general intro and consideration of immigration. I didn't particularly enjoy much of this. The material was appropriate for a late grade school or middle schooler, perhaps ages 11 - 13, who had not considered the what, whys, how's, and impacts of immigration through the centuries. Several exhibits tended to "preachiness" and political correctness that rather alienated me. Nonetheless, I applaud the museum for taking on the topic as extensively as it did, If I had been traveling with children, I would have discussed the issues with them.

I never figured out Building 3 - an exhibit of Sesame Street. I never watched it nor did my children.

Cafe was a nice spot to relax. The computer access to Ancestry was not working when I tried. Oh well. I have used it from my library at home. I appreciate that the museum makes the records available.

We visited on a Sunday, & found it fairly quiet. The building itself seems fairly new, and there’s several levels here, so don’t forget to look in the lower levels before you leave!
The simulator is good (perhaps too accurate, as I struggled to get out of the mud!) though you’ll need to queue at busy times. Most displays are in German, though there was enough English for me to appreciate the exhibits.
A good way to spend 1-2 hours.

How to communicate without talking and/or listening? Get a hands on experience here. The docent was very friendly and informative. It's pretty unique. Not very touristy - most people go to the Dialog in dark, for which you need to reserve way in advance. But tickets for this was easy to get on the spot ~ 10 min before the event.

This museum is quite small but quite brilliant. It is very reasonable priced at €6 and for that you also get a free audio guide which came in handy to explain some of the lesser known figures. It has quite a range of wax figures, ranging in quality (possibly due to the ranging age of the sculptures). Overall though they are great. Figures from history mixed in with figures from popular culture. I highly recommend a visit.

We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by Wittus (owner and magician), who showed us around (in English) and told us everything about the magical world of magicians. Would recommend to anyone!

The Brahms Museum is part of the Komponisten Quartier, which include other world famous composers too. Brahms was a Hamburg native and was actually born not far from the present museum.

Some interesting exhibits are on show including photos, letters and concert programmes. Tablets with English text are available, giving good in-depth information about the background and life of this great composer. Very friendly staff made our visit an excellent one.
