This stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in Berlin’s historic Mitte. You can find five historic museums here: Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode Museum, and Pergamon Museum.

A new exhibition building, the James Simon Gallery, was opened in 2019. At the moment, there are construction works going on around Pergamon Museum.

Also, Berlin Cathedral can be found next to the museums.

You can easily spend the whole day on this island. Beware that you have to make a time-slot reservation for each museum.

I've never been inside. I was staying on the side street at hostel. Due to the lack of private space there, or any space really, I would walk to the corner after dark to sit on the benches in the side square of the building. At the time I didn't know what it was. What I did know was when the lights came on and the sun went down those windows were absolutely stunning. Magical, and thats before the joint. Trust me when I say if you are anywhere nearby in the evening, take a walk by, sit on the bench and just appreciate this remarkably stunning masterpiece.

What you see on TV is exactly what you see in person. It's historic, take your picture and keep walking. Unless you're there for a protest, head to the park, or to go to an embassy, there's not much else there.

The Berliner Dom is a must-visit when visiting Berlin. We were here on a romantic vacation. Only dissapointment was that the crypt for closed for repairs.

Beautiful, big park in the centre of the city. It's possible to reach it from the Brandenburg gate and in the center you can find the Victory Column. The zoo is also there

Beautiful neoclassical square in the centre of the city. Here you can find some nice buildings and, during winter, some of the most beautiful Christmas market of the city

Many music critics call this the best symphony orchestra in the world. Even those who quibble about the top spot admit the Berliner Philharmonie ranks right up there. The hall was state-of-the-art c. 1960 and still offers fine acoustics, in addition to its strikingly strange exterior. Go on a night when the Philharmonie itself is performing, preferably with Sir Simon Rattle on the podium. Although elfin in stature, he embodies an exuberant conducting style that makes him a show in himself. On the night we could get tickets, the program was Haydn's Synphonie No. 102 and Stravinsky's Journey -- neither of them on our list of favorites. But that didn't matter. The performance was brilliant.

    This place is somewhat twofolded.
It is a tourist magnet and to crowded sometimes.
But it is also a lovely spot with beautiful shops.
Advice simply is: Do yourself a favour and do NOT go there if it is crowded.
We go there every time we are in Berlin.

    We will go there again.

The island is nicely located in Berlin Wannsee and wonderful for a walk and talk whilst watching the peacocks and other birds. The restaurant on the island was closed for covid restrictions but the trip with the double decker bus through the woods and the little ferryboat alone was worth going there.

Designpanoptikum is the kind of museum, that is like an old depot, but with every random object organised, so that it fits with the others.
The owner of the place is a Russian photographer, whose works are hanging on the walls. If you choose the option to take a guided tour, prepare for a lot of talking. And it fits just perfectly in the theme of the place.
Like after every museum, you will get the feeling to think about a lot of philosophical questions. However after the panoptikum - you will leave with the most unexpected ones.

The French Dom is the northern one of two alikes on the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt square.
It was built in the 17c for French Huguenots - French Protestant reformists, who fled France due to religious persecution. They established their community in Berlin and added the Dome in late 18c, which today houses their museum with a viewing platform atop, while the lower level is still a Church.

The theater it self is so impressive with the decor, seats, balconies and setup. Everything is efficient from entry to service. And the best thing is that you get a family feeling, people are not all dressed up and you can finns children in the aduience as well. If you want a nice opera with a modern scenery, you should absolutely chose this place. We saw "The magic flute".
