In our quest to conquer the transit system, we went the wrong direction and ended up here. All was not lost, as this memorial makes a lasting impression,

One of the most interesting museums I ever visited. The way they reconstructed the gates is remarkable. I was very impressed. Cannot wait to visit again once the renovations are finished.

This stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in Berlin’s historic Mitte. You can find five historic museums here: Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode Museum, and Pergamon Museum.

A new exhibition building, the James Simon Gallery, was opened in 2019. At the moment, there are construction works going on around Pergamon Museum.

Also, Berlin Cathedral can be found next to the museums.

You can easily spend the whole day on this island. Beware that you have to make a time-slot reservation for each museum.

I've never been inside. I was staying on the side street at hostel. Due to the lack of private space there, or any space really, I would walk to the corner after dark to sit on the benches in the side square of the building. At the time I didn't know what it was. What I did know was when the lights came on and the sun went down those windows were absolutely stunning. Magical, and thats before the joint. Trust me when I say if you are anywhere nearby in the evening, take a walk by, sit on the bench and just appreciate this remarkably stunning masterpiece.

This gate, famous all over the world, its a must see place in Berlin. It was rebuilt lot of times and now is Imposing like it was during the past eras. From this you can reach almost every place in Berlin, by foot or by metro.

Great visit, would recommend. So much history and emotion when visiting the memorial.
I spent a good couple of hours walking round, reading all the information and taking it all in.

Most pleasant and impressive of the 5 (at least until the Pergamon is re-opened fully). The Egyptian display is, of course, very extensive, but it is the early man display on the top floor that most impressed me. Probably the best display on the Paleolithic that I have seen.

Obviously the main building is under construction so we could only visit the new building. Beautifully laid out. We visited the exhibitions about Wagner and Karl Marx. Very informative and interesting. I did not really enjoy the layout of the Marx exhibition, it felt a bit all over the place.

Will return once the main building opens again!

Beautiful neoclassical square in the centre of the city. Here you can find some nice buildings and, during winter, some of the most beautiful Christmas market of the city

I enjoyed going through historic information as well as the human touch of espionage - double agents, etc.
The gadgets shown are of a great variety and number - for comparison - the Stasi museum only has a couple of articles displayed.

This museum was more comprehensive than I expected! You can see qr codes located in everywhere which leads you to audioguide page where you can listen the information with your own device. It took 2 hours to complete. Must seen!

Another free historical museum that brings the time period alive. Only the Germans could make a passport control station engaging. An excellent audio guide explains the whole process, but it is also all in English. I am getting tired of saying "a must-see"; just consider Berlin a "must-see".

An interesting overview of life in the former East Germany. The museum is very interactive and would interest older children with plenty of doors and drawers to open. It is well laid out with nearly everything translated into English to explain the exhibits.
We spent over 2 hours here and it would be ideal in wet weather or if you are short of time to visit one of the larger museums. It has a small gift shop and was tempted to buy a piece of the Berlin Wall.

The Mitte district has it all: shopping, interesting streets, stunning buildings, the winding River Spree, museums, trendy restaurants, and bars. The most famous sights of Berlin are located here.

The most prominent feature is the 368-meter-high TV tower on Alexanderplatz. The city’s most famous museums can be found next door on Museum Island. The iconic Brandenburg Gate is located at the end of the Unter den Linden Boulevard. The Potsdamer Platz is surrounded by modern architecture.
