This is an unusual place in which to see concerts. The building houses a workshop specialising in restoration of historic instruments which appear to be pianos.
The raised area forming a stage does have several pianos in various states of repair including a fine concert grand. Audience members have to prebook seats and get a complimentary drink from the bar at the start and the interval. There are a lot of seats crowded into the venue and seating is snug to say the least.
We saw a concert of classical music fronted by a fantastic violinist from the Berlin Phil. He had a piano accompaniment given by a player of equal virtuosity.
I am not a fan of fiddle and piano, nor single opera soloist and piano. Although I am a big lover of classical orchestral music, opera, solo piano, string ensembles and string soloists. It’s just the genre of fiddle/piano etc I personally have issues with.
That said the concert was fine, if a little long. The players enjoyed themselves and three encores, each with more music, was too much for this audience member. Other audience members loved it though with a huge roar after the final George Gherswin piece was played.
The venue is a must visit for music fans. I will come again but will look more for solo piano or jazz.
Well recommended.
