The Golden gallery in the palace was very opulent . Spent couple of hours wandering round the palace and grounds, gardens etc , lockets to put your bags in , cafe , gift shop . The Christmas markets outside sold variety of food and drinks,( we enjoyed a cherry mulled wine) crafts etc . It had snowed so was picturesque . Worth a visit .

The original Berliner 'Stadtschloss Unter den Linden'was the winter residence of the Margrave and Elector of Brandenburg and later the residence of the King of Prussia and the German Emperor.

During World War II it burned down and was replaced by the ugly
Palast der Republik of the former GDR.

During the first decad of this cebtury, the old palace was rebuilt, although the faces mostly look authentical, the structure is modern as wel as several inner and outer facades.

The rebuilt castle houses the non-European collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and the book collections of Humboldt University and the Berlin City Library, a cinema, a passage with terraces and rooms for conferences and other meetings.

We walked here from the Reichstag through the GroĂźer Tiergarten which was pleasant, quiet and peaceful on a warm sunny Sunday morning in August recently. We viewed this official resident of the German President trying to decide whether the flags fluttering in the breeze meant that he was in residence or not. Actually the Presidential Standard was flying but that does not necessarily mean that he is in residency...

The Bellevue (French for "Beautiful View") Palace is an impressive building and all the more remarkable for no apparent showing of security. We sat on a park bench for 15 minutes or so, took our photographs and wondered at the number of tourist busses that passed by. Eventually we felt the need to continue on to our next destination on our walking tour - the Victory Column just a little further down the road.

Schloss closed at time of visit, so had a look around and walk in the grounds. A pleasant stroll and a few things to look at in the park.

A visit to Pfaueninsel is one of my favorite things to do in Berlin in the summer. I highly recommend visiting the small castle too, if not only for the experience of sliding around in oversized felt slippers on the beautiful wood floors.
However, the lady conducting the tour this time was not very friendly, almost rude. She seemed as occupied mentioning how inconvenienced she was by people trying to make comments or taking their slippers off too soon as she was scolding modern mankind fir wearing tshirts made from cotton treated with pesticides. I assume her colleague was much nicer, which would be easy enough.
If you go on the tour request not to go with the dark haired lady who has worked there for over 15 years already.
Otherwise The Pfaueninsel visit is totally worth it!

The castle is very attractive and has a nice park behind it.
It is open on Mondays only and only at 11am and at 3 pm. It is not open between 11 and 3 pm. At 11am and at 3pm the castle can only be seen on a guided tour in German. There is no signage, no car parking and no facilities.

Located in Pankow area this palace has interesting history and a good collection. The Palace is surrounded by a huge garden. The entry fee is 6 Euros. An audio guide is inclusive in that. However found the staff in the rooms during the tour to be impolite and uninterested

We walked to this building. It is an interesting place, where they have a museum of porcelain. I am not very interested in it, but it was a nice exhibition.

The palace has been recently renovated in a good and coherent way.
    The garden is nice.
Inside the palace there is a small exhibition.
