What travelers are saying
- geo3Calgary, Canada2,448 contributionsThis was the third visit here, and this town seems to become more beautiful with every visit.
This is a town to leisurely enjoy, rather than making a rushed tour. There are hundreds of buildings with interesting architectural details.
The free walk on the walls surrounding the city is a worthwhile experience. Any of the local guided tours I have taken have also been good.Written December 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Can walk the entire perimeter.Written December 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- scvroseFiddletown, CA1,297 contributionsImpressive church from the outside, unfortunately, the doors were locked when we got there. We did walk around, checked out the statue behind the caged in area, and enjoyed the day.Written November 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathryn NNew York City, NY156 contributionsA lot of interesting exhibits at this museum. I enjoyed learning about the role shame and honor played in medieval society and was entertained by the ways in which people were humiliated in the past (shame masks, etc). Not too gory so would recommend to anyone.Written December 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SnowyShastaPortland, OR2,601 contributionsThis park is where the original castle was located, now a garden area. There are benches scattered around, and we saw people walking their dogs and enjoying picnics. We admired the views, since the garden fills in the westernmost part of the city walls. You can see down below the walls, as well as over them towards the interior of the city. The views were scenic and worth seeing, as we took some time to relax and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere.Written November 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - db7477Carlsbad, CA3,493 contributionsThis is the iconic Rothenburg tower that is captured on the covers of travel guides, books and post cards. It’s certainly worth fighting the crowds to see but don’t expect to photograph your loved ones without a hundred “friends or acquaintances”. We visited, with several thousand other tourists, on the Saturday before Christmas. Rothenburg’s magical during Advent.Written December 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SnowyShastaPortland, OR2,601 contributionsWe wanted to walk around Rothenburg's town walls, and chose to start our journey at the Spital Bastion, located at the far south section. The bastion has a tower as well as several smaller fortifications that you can wander through. First thing in the morning we had them to ourselves, and my teenagers really enjoyed wandering through seeing the stone and timber fortifications. From there, we joined the town walls for our circuit around the town.Written November 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve SEugene, OR1,849 contributionsI went here with my wife as we found it while visiting the local Christmas markets. A pretty small museum with a lot of interesting information and history. It was €4 entrance. It is definitely worth o visit for a person who has an interest in history. It doesn’t take long. You can walk through and read the placards in about a hour or less.Written December 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DarylJ552Carlsbad, CA3,574 contributionsThe Rothenburg Museum is located in The Rothenburg Old Town. The musum building was originally a convent constructed in the late 1200's. There are 3 floors of exhibits including swords, guns, paintings, dishes and furniture. One of the rooms houses the kitchen of the nunnery which dates back to 1298 AD. We spent 2 hours there.Written August 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- geo3Calgary, Canada2,448 contributionsThe burgtor itself is only one of many interesting architectural features in and around Rothenburg. It is impressive, but my main reason for giving it four stars is the great views of the town from the gardens, which you enter through the gate. If you are making a circuit of the city walls, as I was, the gardens are also a place to stop and take a break. There are benches in the park.Written December 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- VadimMurmansk, Russia35,031 contributionsThe "Jagstheimer House" on Marktplatz is so called because Mayor Jagstheimer built it in 1448. About half a century later, the most famous guest of this house from Bavaria was the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. In 1571, with the death of the last heir, the Jagstheimer family lost control of the house. During the Thirty Years' War, there lived Burgomaster Nush, the one who, according to legend, won the famous bet from the commander Tilly. The fact of his residence here is more real than this bet. Maria's pharmacy has been operating in the building since 1812 to this day. Around this time, the house was rebuilt in the Baroque style. In 1987, pharmacist Friedrich Stegmann acquired the pharmacy. At the moment, this is the fifth family of owners.Written November 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - scvroseFiddletown, CA1,297 contributionsGreat people watching while sipping a coffee on the square. The impressive town hall building on one side and shops all around makes for a pleasant time to relax.Written November 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
