What travelers are saying
- Anuj_MithaniMumbai, India4,691 contributionsWe bough the Ticket Zugspitze (€72 per adult) at the trains tation at Garmisch on the morning of the day. An early start is recommended to avoid crowds, that peak around mid-day.
1. We took the Zugspitzbahn train to Eibsee, and walked across to the cable car station that zips you up to the summit. We spent over an hour here - it's possible to move freely between the German and Austrian side, and enjoy the panormas around.
2. We then took the Gletscherbahn cable car to descend to the glacier level, and spent another few hours there. You can also enjoy the free sldges here.
3. The final descent is the cogwheel train back down, and a nice lesiurely walk around Eibsee, before taking the train back to Garmisch,
It was a bright and clear day, so we got lucky with the weather (its better not to buy online advance tickets but assess weather and buy on the day itself). We've visited several mountains/peaks in Europe, but this one is highly underrated and a must-visit.Written November 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The gorge is no longer free (some conflicting information on the internet, possibly dated) - it cost 10€ per person to access via turnstiles. You then walk along a narrow path cut in the rock along the gorge offering some spectacular views en route. When you come out at the end, you have two choices (1) retrace back the same way (2) hike to Kaiserchmarn Alm, refuel, and take a route above the gorge back to the base. (We took the latter, as its offers different vistas with mountains in the backdrop). A very enjoyable experience, about 3 hours to finish.Written November 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PaulCamberley, UK10 contributionsMy wank is outstanding. It always a experience going to wank. The views of mt wank is spectacular and orgasmic. Went solo but sometimes can be done as a couple. The top is nice when snow covered.Written October 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- DubaidickieDubai, United Arab Emirates97 contributionsMy fiftieth birthday treat was tackle a via ferrata / klettersteig and the Alpspitz ascent did not disappoint! Went up in the seilbahn, then tackled the climb. 4 hours / 8km / 700m ascent. We were pretty slow having never done it before, but wow! pretty hairy on the ladders going up, just as hairy on the scary on the scree slope descent. I cannot recommend this enough.
We had bought the via ferrata kit in advance (maybe you can hire in Garmisch?)Written May 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the way up, consider to spend one night in a cottage where you can enjoy great food and views.Written April 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 3sisters2016Birmingham, AL38 contributionsMy sisters and I had a great experience in Germany. We took a train from Paris to Stuttgart, changed trains, and continued to Munchen, where we rented a car and drove to Bavaria. We stayed in Bertschesgaden for two nights and Garmish for three nights. The people were amazing, landscape was gorgeous and things we chose to do provided us with a wonderful experience.Written November 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin OGermany93 contributionsBeautiful small mountain lake that has a magnificent view of Zugspitze. It only takes 20 through 30 minutes to walk around the lake and if you are brave, you can go swimming in it. The mountain air is refreshing and was a nice evening stop.Written August 13, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew JonesLondon, UK672 contributionsWe stumbled across the Skistadion as it’s on the walking route from the town centre to Partnachklamm. It’s a very impressive sight, but, if you don’t have a keen interest in winter sports, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going out of your way to see it.Written August 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sue HSt. Petersburg, FL1 contributionBeautiful breathtaking views from the mountain top! The lake below was clear blue, cold and swimmable. We found the accommodations welcoming.Written July 22, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sanjo RSouth Africa30 contributionsWe did this hike in the pouring rain which meant that there was no view but it was still worth it. We were short on time and really wanted to an alpine hike. It is a steep climb but beautiful scenery, even got to see an Alpine Salamander. The only big downside was the unfriendly hosts at the beer garden. They wouldn't allow us to sit under cover on their veranda and eat our own picnic. Their veranda is the only under cover spot at the top so was frustrating in the rain. Other than that it was a worthwhile trip.Written September 13, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
