Gardens
The Botanical Garden: at the heart of plants The Botanical Gardens of Nantes, with 7 hectares of green spaces in the centre of town, more than 10,000 living species, 800 square metres of greenhouses and more than 50,00 flowers planted each season, holder of the Remarkable Garden label, is among the four leading botanical gardens in France. The collections have developed and specialised over 150 years. The Botanical Garden, which is both a scientific and a pleasure garden, has become a world reference, especially for its camellia collection which is unique in France, for the culture of epiphytic* plants in a semi-natural setting and for its permanent concern for the re-introduction of rare species. As an example we will cite the wild tulip, which disappeared in the 1970s and was reintroduced in 2010 in the vineyards of the region. Its great beauty in all seasons and its remarkable specimens (Hectot's Magnolia, American tulip tree and more recently a Wollemi pine, etc.) make the Botanical Garden a major tourist attraction in Nantes, visited every year by more than 1.2 million visitors. * Plants that grow on other plants without being parasites. What an amazing place this is. Too much to do in one day though. I loved the Vikings and Le Ballads Des L’Oiseax. ( the dance of the birds) The enactments are so realistic! There were 300 different birds swooping over our heads! You can hire mobility scooters as it goes up quite a steep hill so if you have mobility issues it may be a bit difficult. Well worth the money.

Huge variety of activities suitable for all ages. Beautiful floral and vegetal displays. Educational and fun. Plenty of toilet facilities and eateries. A fantastic day out.

Great fun on a rainy afternoon. You have to reserve a time slot and then just join the current guided tour which visits all the exhibits in rotation. The elephant is spectacular!

We were there on a boiling hot day so it was a welcome relief to discover so many shaded areas and walkways. The animals looked well cared for and the highlight of the day was the seal display which was well worth seeing. Great day out for all ages.

Lovely garden, within east walking distance of the centre of town and the train station. Orangery cafe was lovely but at the time of our visit (Sunday morning) tables were not being given out unless you were eating so it had to be takeaway coffee.

Beautiful chateau with an excellent museum of Nantes inside. Modern multimedia presentations and thought provoking exhibits. If you do it all could take 2-4 hours. Do take the audio guide if your French is limited.

This was our second visit. Back in 2018 you could feed the animals from you car during the drive through. Apparently not this time which was a pity. I wonder why they have stopped this fun thing to do?

Cannot recommend visiting enough. Kids, grandparents and parents all LOVED it. Be sure to take good, comfortable shoes - you walk a long way. We did it in 7 hours (includes a short stop for lunch and ice creams) walking through at an average rate; so plan to spend the whole day there. Food was reasonably priced in the park. The setting and enclosures are extraordinary. Highly recommended a visit.

This attraction is a must-see when visiting. The level of history recorded on the tours is intense. Anything to learn about the people of the time? How history worked out for the good and the bad. Well worth saying take the extra time to stay-a-while.

This was the best family day out that we’ve ever had! We did the tree tops trails. We spent hours on them, never got kicked out. Had wristbands but unsure how they would ever manage to police it.
Went with kids age 6 and 7. They absolutely loved it. I couldn’t walk the next day though.
Be aware some of the trails can take an hour and in busy periods you can get stuck waiting for people to move on with no way of getting down, both my children were dying for a wee but couldn’t get off so go to the toilet between trails!
We took a packed lunch and used the lockers. Can buy snacks.
    Definitely recommend buying the gloves

Great day out - kids really loved it.
Spent 3 hours there. Seeing a King Tiger was one of the highlights. Probably should have taken the informed tour but kids might not have that span of attention?
Grandad (80) loved it as he is into heavy diesel engines.

The Passage Pommeraye is an interesting shopping venue. The architecture of the structure is beautiful and there are unique boutiques where you can find that one of a kind item that is not in the mainstream of fashion. It's a relaxing less crowded place to shop or just browse while in Paris.
