There are so many massive medieval cathedrals in France that it’s hard for any to stand out, but Rouen is definitely in the “top tier.” The ornate facade and stained glass and rose windows in the interior are highlights. It’s also a historic site that was painted by Monet dozens of times and is where early Viking and Norman leaders were interred.

Great museum with lots of wonderful art and sculptures. Hubby really wanted to see the David Hockney exhibition, which was also good.

The past meets the present on that street. Located between the cathedral and place du vieux marché, this is the street to do while visiting the city. It's a mix of culture/ history and shopping.

Pleasant surprise! Was not expecting to find such a nice, vibrant city. Beautiful buildings, décorations and lots of terraces and restaurants. I truly recomend it for visiting, you’ll not regret it.

See the large clock (Gro-Horloge) located in Rouen. It is above the ancient gate to the city. Also notice that it is missing one of it's hands.

This is a fascinating place, using video projection and audio guides to take the visitor through the process of the trial that took place several years after Joan of arcs death to decide whether her sentence and execution were just.
It takes about an hour and a half to go around and is extremely interesting even for those who have no particular interest in history.
There are a lot of steps to climb so to be sure to ask at the entrance if you can use the lift, before you start the tour, if stairs are a problem for you. Highly recommended.

A fascinating and different sort of museum housed in an old church, this Musee features a wide collection of iron things from long ago. The intricate and detailed iron work on locks, ornaments etc. is quite amazing. Worth a visit.

Very pretty streets of Rouen with lots of wonderful medical buildings, cobbled streets and clean with a nice feel, it was Easter Saturday so we enjoyed wandering around looking at all the shop windows!

One of the oldest streets of Rouen with its traditional building, some of them, if you look carefully, are leaning. Paved street for pedestrians only. A must do.

You really have to know how to get there. It's used by an art school, as well as some new little cafés.
If you look carefully at the architecture, the wood is carved with skulls on it.

Visited on Monday 11th September 2023. Travelling from Le Harve we took our second organised excursion from the ship in the form of an unguided coach trip to Rouen. The city has about 2,000 half-timbered houses and that includes ones in this square. We didn't note any details about it being the location where Joan of Arc was burned alive but that's the negative of taking an unguided tour or reading up on the City in advance.

This gothic looking Court House is still in activity. Located in the heart of the City, you can still see the impacts of the machine guns from WW2 on the walls.
