Crazy brutalist architecture from outside, astonishing monumental from inside! Huge tower with colorful glass windows. A must see in Le Havre

We went on a cold, wet day In February not expecting much as we have left many galleries of modern art somewhat baffled.
Not this one, the collection is largely of paintings from the impressionist era, many with local connections. We were impressed.
There was also an exhibition of more abstract works which was interesting.
Overall, an excellent collection, a spacious building and well worth a visit. It was €7 when we went.

Great gardens, it is indeed what they say, "the whole world in a garden"!! It has sooo many plants and a great map to visit following a trail. A must if you are in the area! From there you can have a great panorama of Le Havre also!

This is a wonderful find, which we stumbled across by accident. We were standign on the doorstep wondering if we should give it a go, when a local gentleman passing by encouraged us to go in. He told us we'd love it, and he wasn't wrong.
This is quite a small museum, and can only be visited as a group accompanied by a guide, due to the stairs. The guide on duty was amazing and gave us some wonderful insights into the house. While she felt that her English was limited, I assure you she was absolutely up to the task and made it a great visit.
We would have loved a chance to spend more time, but there was another tour behind us waiting their turn.
This is an absolutely excellent way to spend an hour or so. Highly recommended.
Due to the construction of the building, you need ot be able to manage 5 flights of stairs to undertake the tour.

This ultra modern library stands in the sole center of Le Havre. It perfectly fits here, as the whole city is built in modern architecture after a total devastation in WWII. Of course, it's a work of art of the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
The library is free to visit and has also several interesting art installations around it.

The beaches of Le Havre stretch along the city's western part, right by the center. There's a huge free parking lot along it.
I found it a very pleasant place to walk, have a drink and take some photos, but I doubt I'd swim there even in peak summer season. The beach is of huge pebbles, difficult to walk on, I saw no sand by the sea.

This is a church that won't take the hint!
Founded in the fenlands of Le Havre in the 1500s, the first church sank into the swamp.
    It was rebuilt, and flooded.
It was rebuilt, and did quite well for a while until the Revolution came, whereupon it was converted into a centre for reason, before becoming a hay barn.
After the Revolution, it was restored and became a church again.
Several restorations later and it was doing quite well, until it was bombed during WWII.
Once again, it was rebuilt, and had further restorations over the past few years.
Now the South wall is trying to fall down.
But, for all that, it keeps going and is a lovely place for a visit.

The center of town was destroyed during WWII bombing. It was probably charming then. Not so charming now, but it functions well, traffic flows, there are theaters and government buildings plus a lot of shopping. All post-war design, some pleasant, some just functional.

A very small chapel meant for the fishermen of the area. Full of memorial plates and scale model boats.

It decorated with many items making it busy.

Great view and there's a nice quite garden behind it.
