- tlynn63Cincinnati, OH706 contributionsI did not know what to expect entering into the area. It is a lovely area and fairly large. We were able to go into the church and then walked to the grotto where there were chairs in front. We got in line so we could touch the water on the stone wall. Inside you can buy a vial for the holy water if you wish to take some home with you. We sat on a bench and observed for awhile. Before 9:00 people began to gather in lines in front of the church each with a candle with paper cone. The numerous stores outside the Sanctuarie were selling them but we bought ours inside. An long procession began at 9:00 where everyone walked around listening to scripture.
At the end everyone returned to outside the church. The procession was over at 10:00. It was very impressive and touching although I did not understand the French language. I felt it was a once in a lifetime experience.Written June 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - explore_with_mayPhilippines829 contributions1000-year-old fortress which has never been conquered and is home to the Musee Pyrneneen. The exhibits are interesting, but what really impressed me were the views from the fort -- you especially get a great view of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes from here. Entrance fee is EUR 7.50. I suggest taking the elevator to go up and then walk down (its a bit steep).Written June 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Federica PMontreal, Canada17 contributionsI suggest visitors sign up at the info session to join with a guide. The guide is usually a priest or deacon and is able to explain the stations. At each station there is a prayer.
Arriving at the end of the stations there is a rock which portrays the rock that closed Christ’s tomb. Pilgrims leave their rosaries along with their prayers.Written May 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Simply incredible to see the enormity of the space - and to imagine that it fills in during peak season.Written May 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you understand French, take the session with the Deacon François, he’s wonderful! Full of energy and lively for an elderly man.Written May 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- explore_with_mayPhilippines829 contributionsImposing structure at the sanctuary of our Lady of Lourdes. Larger of the churches on the sanctuary grounds.Written June 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- explore_with_mayPhilippines829 contributionsThe smaller of the churches in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. It sits on top of the Grotto of Massabielle. Don't forget to visit it after the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.Written June 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Federica PMontreal, Canada17 contributionsThe crypt is a small somber space located underneath the Basilica de l’Immaculée Conception. - explore_with_mayPhilippines829 contributionsIt is the former prison where St. Bernadette and her family lived when she saw the apparitions. Basically just a room but you can imagine how hard life was for St. Bernadette and her family living here. Entrance is free and the line to get in may be long (and could get noisy) depending on whether you will be catching the tail end of a tour group.Written June 17, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris EGloucester, UK278 contributionsWe traveled toward the end of May and arrived on the back of a visit to the body of St Bernadette in Nevers, it was quieter than we expected which was a nice surprise given it is the second most visited catholic site second only to the Vatican. The structure, architecture enhanced by the magnitude of the story could be overwhelming even if you are not overly religious or catholic. I was touched by what i felt and seeing the hundreds of volunteers give their time to push wheelchairs and offer ill people to the healing baths and places of worship including this. Well worth a visit if not to reinvest in the good side of humanity, an emotional and beautiful experience and if like me you are an keen photographer, wonderful opportunities abound.Written June 16, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - annminkyUnited States1,471 contributionsAnother nice church to visit while in Lourdes. They did allowed people to enter and participate during the mass. A nice addition to this Holy site. Not a really big church but still a place for an afternoon mass.Written January 22, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kenbainesWrotham, UK531 contributionsThe new (early 20th Century) Parish Church is currently undergoing renovation but one can still see the baptismal font, where Bernadette was baptised - brought over from the old church - and the crypt is still open.Written July 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
