We did our research before visiting and we were staying over an hour away so set off in good time. We took a large bottle of water as it was very hot and I’m glad we did, we spent hours walking around so definitely needed it! This place was informative, heartbreaking but interesting. A must see for yourself to fully appreciate the history here.

Superb collection across hundreds of years of ceramic making. Situated in a purpose built building with a modern extension. Very much worth a visit if you can manage it.

Fabulous station. Easy to navigate your destination. Staff very friendly.
    Restaurants around the station.
On our return someone was playing the piano and the ambiance was lovely.

I have studied a lot of the history of the 20th century in Europe and visited many places connected with key events, but no history is told as well as those places where everything has been left as it was - just as it is in Oradour. There are so many things to see here that show what the village was like in 1944 - the Singer sowing machines in the houses; the weighing scales in the baker's shop, the rusting cars, the schools, the cafes, the tram lines - you can see the people living their lives there up to the moment that the atrocity happened.
In the Visitor Centre, we bought a pamphlet called "The Tragedy Hour by Hour" by Robert Hebras - one of the few survivors of the massacre and we used it as a guide during our visit. It told the story of what happened and how it happened in sufficient detail to understand how events unfolded that day. When we were leaving, we passed two walls which carry photographs of many of those whose lives were cut short that day. No human being could look at the people in those photos and not feel emotional and ask how could such things happen - and feel a determination that they should never happen again.
Anyone who visits Oradour and is not appalled at what humans can do to each other has not learned from the experience.

Cathedral with parts of the structure dating from the 1300s and prior, it's located next to the botanical gardens and in the older part of town. The interior was quite impressive and there are pamphlets available in French, English, Spanish and other languages available for one euro each. You can feel the history in this cathedral. Worth a visit.

There are such hidden treasures in the center of France and this is a gem like no other .
From the initial warm welcome to the well versed historical storytelling you are guaranteed to step back in time and embrace the beautiful pastoral backdrop . My family cannot stop talking about it and by far this has been the best tour I have experienced throughout my travels in France!

Beautiful gardens next to the cathedral. Nice place to spend some time wandering through it all and then walk down to the river.

Sunday morning visit to this old slate Quarry with history. A nice tour lasting just over an hour, probably a struggle for the less agile as there is a large staircase to descend and a good climb on a slope to finish. Overall very enjoyable.

We’ve been to huge aquariums in major capitals around the world so was expecting this might be a little underwhelming. In fact, we loved it! The tanks are super clean and everything looks well looked after. So many interesting fish and sea creatures, including varieties we’ve never seen before.
The staff man walking around was super friendly and welcoming, and pointed out some baby fish that had been born that morning, which my 2.5 year old loved to see.
My only negative would be that although another reviewer said exhibits had English translations, I didn’t see any, only French, but perhaps I was too engrossed in looking at the fish!

Didnt know what to expect but the kids loved it. Though signage to get there could be improved! Within a natural park, makes for a nice day out, reasonable prices, lovely helpful staff and plenty of walks/ cycling nearby. Good fun! The let-down is on food and drinks. Drinks fine, water, sodas available, no fireworks, but food could do with a big step up. The sandwiches, two choices only, commercial pre-packed were terrible. When you're a fair drive from the nearest shop, with hungry kids (and, erm, unprepared parents!), the management might want to capitalise on this captive audience! Still, a lovely day out we very much enjoyed.
