This is a hidden gem! If you are interested in science and history of science and technology, this is a must see. You can see Pascal's original counting machine, Lavoisier's lab where he made water, Foucault's apparatus for measuring light speed, and so on and on. It is quite fascinating. There is no crowd, even if you discount the fact that it is in Paris!

We were intending to visit the Grand Palais but it was closed and discovered the Palais de la Decouverte nearby while wandering around the area. As concessionaries, the entrance fee was 7€ each and we were given a map in English showing the various display areas and themes covered therein. Sadly, there was very little else in English so our understanding of many of the exhibits was limited. Nevertheless, we spent 2-3 hours wandering around looking at the many displays and enjoying “playing” with the interactive exhibits while also testing our basic, school French.

The themes covered within the museum included aspects of physics such as magnetism, light and sound; chemistry; anatomy (including a section titled “L’Ecole des rats”!); astronomy and mathematics.

Despite the lack of English notes, we enjoyed the visit but people with no knowledge of French should probably consider avoiding the museum.

It needs an upgrade. There are some cool exhibits, but many are outdated or broken down. For the size of the building, there's not much in it.

WE had walked past, around and in front of th Musee de L'Homme and knew very little about the collection inside. So on our second last day we decided to take a look inside. Instantly we realised that we should have come here earlier and allocated as much time as we could to take in all the levels and exhibits.
The quality and presentation of material is among the best I have seen in travelling around the world and presented in a manner that allows you to focus on specific areas without a confusion of other items being out of place and making the exhibit a jumbled mess. The signage is in several languages and you can also pickup self help items and earphones with info at the ready.
With the sheer volume of material and the quality we took much longer than we thought and only covered a part of the total. WE will be heading back once Covid-19 is over and complete our exploration of this building.

This ended up being the best Museum of our trip. Being a military fan it was MUCH more than expected. First of it is HUGE! The artifacts are top notch. I mean they have napoleon's horse on display. Absolutely magnificent weapons displays all the way back to the 1400's. Believe me when I say you can't miss this. We spent double the time here compared to The Louvre.

I enjoyed the individual mineral displays. Many of which are very large. That said, it is not a very large galleria. It is actually a short visit. Expensive for that.

This collection is truly superb - the 1 500 specimens on display were selected because of their rarity, quality and importance in earth sciences and industrial/artistic applications.

The minerals are beautifully displayed in large glass cabinets and are organised by chemical composition and structure. We still get amazed seeing the incredible variety of crystal structures for minerals which have the same chemical composition.

Whilst you are not allowed to take photos, a portion (about 450 specimens) of the collection is available on CD-Rom (for Euros 10 from memory). There are also a few books for sale including the excellent 'Minéraux remarquables' by the Director of the collection, Jean-Claude Boulliard, which has superb photos. It is in French of course!

At Euros 6, the visit was incredible value. We will certainly go again.

This is one of the recommended places in Paris to bring children and while there are many interesting things and exhibits to see, the over all handling of guests can be much improved.
Perhaps because we visited during peak season for school children, the museum was full of kids on field trips -- and it was noisy and not well managed, by both museum staff and chaperones of the school kids.
Some of the exhibits were not working and there was no one to manage the lines of kids at the more popular displays.
The science museum for adults is more geared to teen agers and high school students.

Only really positive thing about the place is the personnel who is nice and helpful, but for the rest is not up to expectations. In fact, the place is small, with high prices , definitely for a 19€ ticket for an adult in Paris you can get much much more . Moreover even for kids it can be probably interesting up to 11-12 years old , my son who is 13 had already done most of the things presented in this museum and got bored pretty quickly. Last but not least it is all and ONLY in French , no English or other languages.

After several days of much museum visiting and attraction visiting in Europe, kids were aching for sone free time. Didn’t visit science museum….only bc of limited time. But kids just loved the dragon slide and playgrounds. And just the open space to run and be kids. Was probably even more empty bc we visited in august, but that was ok with us. Sone parts seemed to be under construction. But for some free open space for kids to explore and to run around it was perfect. There’s carousels for younger set, food trucks and couple places to eat….even a McDonald’s at the entrance, a canal with boating options, and different gardens to explore.

We did have fun and laughed and so did the two 9 year olds with us. However there were too many people at each session (up to 70) and many children were not wearing masks. I saw one child sneeze all over the puzzles.
It is also much much too expensive. The visit took 45 minutes and it is €18 for an adult and €12 for a child. We had a family ticket for €45 for 2 adults and 2 children and even that is too expensive.
