It was an amazing vibe viewing the glass pyramid. I have been seen this only on TV. Very beautiful piece of art.

Next, I checked up the best spot where I usually get ganja in Paris @budsandstoners[.]com, the best forum to find pot in Paris.

The best visit of the trip. Considering it’s free, i think it should be priced! So happy the cathedral was back open for us to visit and it honestly is so worth it. The place is so clean, well looked after and the history is amazing.
The staff were all really polite and the places of worship are respected. Loved lighting a candle for a loved one. Definitely a visit is required.

RT gave a great tour up to the Arc. She's very knowledgeable about all the designers that lined the Champ Elyse. She made us feel very welcome and tailored the tour to our interest. She even gave us ideas of great things to do on an overcast afternoon and restaurant recommendations for later.

From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a grandiose interior. The ceilings are painted with exquisite scenes from opera productions, and the space feels as if it could host an event from another time.

You’ve seen pictures of Ste. Chappelle, which appear often in travel literature and books about Paris, but no photo can do it justice.

Ste. Chappelle is maybe 200 yards west of Notre Dame. It is a compact space in very high demand, so you will want to book a timed ticket well ahead of your visit. Due to heightened security, even with a timed ticket you may have to wait (ours was about 45 minutes past the set time). Unfortunately, the complaints on this site about the poor line management are true - make sure you have a timed ticket, but anticipate a wait.

They take the excellent Paris Museum Pass.

It’s worth the wait. The core of Ste Chappelle is a large chapel with stained windows from the 1500s. The detailed windows have countless Biblical scenes from the Old and New Testaments. They have guides to help you find them and it is fun looking for things like the ark, Adam & Eve, David & Goliath, etc.

Look closely at the large rosette window at the back, which has scenes from the Book of Revelation, including multi-headed beasts and dragons.

A few notes: The chapel is on the second level of the building, and access may be difficult for those with mobility limitations. Some of the windows are also undergoing renovation, so portions are covered by scaffolding.

This is one of the most beautiful sites in Paris. It’s more than worth a visit even if the wait is longer than it should be.

If like us, you enjoy walking while exploring, then Saint-Germain is a small but vibrant, fashionable area. We enjoyed strolling through the streets past upmarket boutiques, smart bistros and beautiful architecture. This was the area where the Paris literary and artistic set used to hang out in cafes. In the early 20th century, it attracted writers, painters, sculptors, musicians. If you were in the right spot at the right time, you might have had Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus or Pablo Picasso at the table next to you.
Although there are a handful of sights to see here (Delacroix Museum and the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés), we simply enjoyed it as a very pretty area through which to walk.

The cathedral looks better than before. Entrance was free it was not crowded. People milled around outside watching the facade the Saints and gargoyles. Sat in the pew with the faithfuls absorbed the atmosphere. The Pieta and the glowing cross behind was very nice

The three largest art museums in Paris focus on different eras. The Louvre mostly contains art up to about 1850. The Musée d’Orsay focuses on Impressionist art, with works from roughly 1850 to the early 1900s. The Pompadour Centre focuses on art after that, including post-Impressionist works. One floor was devoted to contemporary art (i.e., up to the last year or so). Which one(s) you visit depends on your tastes and interests.

Note that this museum will be closing in the summer of 2025 for what is expected to be a years-long renovation, so the time to see it is now. Frankly, while the building was bold and innovative when constructed, renovation is needed. The galleries are somewhat spare, other than the art itself. The descriptive material varies from excellent to virtually non-existant.

The collection is far larger than they have room for, so only a small fraction is displayed at any given time. It rotates constantly, so it is difficult to predict what might be showing during your visit. We saw works by Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, Chagall, Braque, Klee, and many others, including rarer works from the Russian Avant Garde. Several worthwhile paintings were by artists we had not seen before. Exploring is part of the fun.

In the contemporary art arena, several of our group liked the special exhibit of woven paper works by Bang Hai Ja.

The building itself is 5 stories tall, but the bulk of the art is on the 4th and 5th floors. We’d recommend starting at the top floor and working your way down. The first floor has two shops, one with unusual design goods, and the other selling art books.
The surrealist-inspired fountain at the side of the museum is a lot of fun.

They have timed tickets you can buy on-line. Unusual for us, we did not take advantage of them, but by arriving right after opening (11:00 on the day of our visit) we had only a short line that moved quickly.

If you like or have interest in art after about 1900 or so, come now before the museum closes for renovation.

We were surprised by a cleaned-up facade after some sand blasting. Maybe it was just the schedule? Maybe it was for the Olympics? Either way, the big bold church has never looked better, and since it sits at a crossroads, many tourists are likely to pass by to enjoy it. A little dark inside, from the Napoleon era.

This sprawling Italian-Renaisssance styled Palace is the central feature of the Luxembourg Gardens. If you are short of time and have to cut to the highlights, you can head straight to the palace and its surrounding gardens.
Commissioned in 1630 by Marie de Medici, the widow of King Henry IV of France and mother of Louis XIII, it stands in front of a small, man-made lake with a central fountain. Leading up to the palace are terraces of marble statues, known as ‘the Twenty Queens of France’.
It is really very lovely and we spent some time lingering around the lake, enjoying the beautiful surrounds and the sun. Others lounged in the free ‘Luxembourg chairs’ that are scattered throughout the gardens.
Covering 24 hectares, the grounds are free to wander through but you can’t go inside the palace at all. Nowadays, it functions as the seat of the French Senate so it’s not open to the public. An exception is during the Heritage weekend in September when historic sites throughout Europe hold special open days.
Although it is not immediately obvious, the romantic Medici Fountain is nearby and is worth seeking out before you leave.

I discovered this place from instagram. I was curious about the black and white columns and I discovered all the rest of the garden. Very relaxing place in the center of the city

Brilliant repairs and renovations on this church. I was pleased to visit it again as so much has been cleaned and done. Lots of history being told in little alcoves throughout this beautiful basilica.

An area famous and probably named after the opera house in the area. Besides Opera Garnier, there’s galeries lafeyette, primtemps and the Apple store which we went. Lots of restaurants, cafes and other shops too

This huge expo palace has been the site of many extraordinary shows, but now is closed for extensive renovations. You can get a good sense of its beauty and size by walking around, but it's a shame I could not go inside.

Surprise. While waiting for something else, my eye fell upon this building, which appeared to be the Hotel de la Marine, completely renovated and only open since 2021. Fascinating interior and a great view over part of Paris from the balcony. There are various tours. We took the tour with the salons, the shortest one. A very nice surprise.
