This is one of the interesting places to visit while sightseeing around the historic city centre of Colmar. It is where an attractive stretch of the River Lauch winds past a picturesque series of houses and scenery. There are a couple of bridges you can stop and take nice pictures as well as flat-bottomed boat rides that feel a bit similar to the gondola experience down some of Venice's smaller canals.

A special and charming quarter that fully rewards a few hours spent strolling around. La Petite Venise is particularly appealing and atmospheric.

Many cafes and restaurants offer tempting choices, both traditional and seasonal.

This is an interesting museum in a 13th century convent. In effect it is two buildings connected with an underground (art) gallery. The map is slightly confusing but once we had worked out what was what we decided to use the two lifts as our floor starting points (you need that for each floor!). Do not miss the Upper Floor covered Swimming Pool Room. As has been said the highlight is the very quiet and serene room (Chapel) where the Isenheim Altarpiece is housed. An 16th century masterpiece which is worth the trip to Colmar for any devotee of religious art.
    Two points -
1). Get in early to avoid groups and you will have an enjoyable peaceful saunter through &
    2) Ask your hotel for a discount voucher - we got 15% off from the Mercure.

Stopped in for a quick bite while touring Colmar. We had made to order spätzle and split a medium order which was enough for the two of us and quite delicious! The stalls in the market offered many options to choose from.

This is the Old Customs House located at Grand Rue in Colmar. What you find are two adjoining buildings that date back to the late 16th-century with Gothic and Renaissance features. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1930, there is exhibition space within. We enjoyed browsing a market within Koifhaus during our recent visit to Colmar. The small square just outside the historic building is also quite charming.

A charming treasure that was built almost 500 years ago. Ludwig Scherer was a successful hatter and as evidence of his wealth had it constructed in 1537.

It is now named for the Pfister family who renovated it and resided in the charming abode for just over 50 years, from 1841.

This is a large Gothic style church situated in the historic city centre of Colmar. Historically, it seems there have been church buildings at this location since at least 1000 AD. However, the building you see today was constructed between 1234 and 1365. Opening hours are 8am to 6.45pm (Mon to Sat),10am to 7pm (Sundays) if you want to visit and see the church while visiting the city.

It is a fine example of Alsace Gothic architecture from the Middle Ages and there are some nice things to see inside including original stained glass windows, choir ambulatory, altarpieces and Baroque era organ. Worth 10 minutes of your time to browse the interior and a few more looking over the facade, towers, portals and other Gothic aspects of the exterior as well.

Grand Rue is a short street perhaps 500 metres in length that winds through part of the historic city centre of Colmar. The street is rather charming, lined with half-timber houses and structures that give a real medieval feel to the area. You will pass by important historic buildings such as the Old Custom's House, see monuments like the Roesselmann Fountain and find plenty of eateries and souvenir shops along Grand Rue as well.

The building currently houses an hotel so your focus is the exterior. It's fascinating to see the various head carvings on the front of the building. The copper figure on the top is by Bartholdi. This is a walk by stop. The street is charming as well.

Interesting to see where the Architect who was responsible for the Statue of Liberty lived. Some interesting works associated with him as the house was originally donated by his widow

We quite liked this little museum. While it is quite small, it is still certainly worth the visit. The exhbition is a bit scattered but shows a lot of toys and games from the past. The addition that you are able to play a number of games yourself on the bottom floor is great.

Went here as a change of pace from historical buildings and glad we did. Learned a lot about chocolate making and got to sample different chocolates too. Very interactive exhibits and enjoyable learning experience. And a tasty hot chocolate after the tour. Well worth it.
