What travelers are saying
- Marg DChristchurch, New Zealand2 contributionsWe thoroughly enjoyed our day at Powerscourt H&G, the fine day certainly helped with wandering the vast ornate gardens, beautiful mountain views and autumn colours. We wandered the small shops within looking at the quality Irish arts and crafts. The drive to Powerscourt alone is worth the trip along winding roads. Don’t forget the garden centre as well as Whiskey distillery and tasting shop with knowledgeable staff.Written November 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GPCalifornia12 contributionsFantastic food and staff always friendly. Perhaps a little less pastries on offer than before? Gardens a bit expensive but worth if for the river walk along. Got some amazing photos of a Heron.Written October 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Giuliana Z1 contributionKllruddery House is a very beautifull chateau. I particulary loved the view from the drawing room to the stunning gardens outside. In a short time the tour guide Joe, gave us a lot of interesting information. He was an experienced guide who spoke clearly for me, an italian vitor. I loved the tour and it was a fantastic day.Written August 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Margaret GoodIreland12 contributionsWe visited on a lovely sunny Monday - I've been before but not my visitors from Australia who were blown away by the variety of plants and very impressed with Yanna doing an excellent guiding job on just her first season in the role.
We had lunch in the cafe on site which also impressed by having excellent and imaginative 'real food' options (including gluten free).Written May 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A beautiful house surrounded by a beautiful created garden, courtyard and places to stay in the courtyard. A naturally sloping garden designed a created by its owner. She was in amongst the weeds gardening away. What a pleasure to meet her. There are a huge variety of plants you can buy and a lovely courtyard cafe where you can enjoy a coffee and a cake. - T-SGlobetrottersPreston, UK4,091 contributionsIt is five years since our last visit here and the gardens are still as amazing as ever. Packed with colour with many rare and unusual plants. Several new areas developed since our last visit including a sand garden for Mediterranean plants. The wooded valley and wildflower meadow on the other side of the valley with its glorious views remains as enchanting as ever. Visit needs a minimum of 3 hours to truly appreciate all there is on offer. Can combine this with a visit to June Blakes garden a short distance away where there is a tea room.Written August 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David DDevon, UK27,676 contributionsWednesday 4th May and we visited the vast garden centre here. On this occasion we did not visit the specialist gardens, instead we had a stroll around the garden centre.
Kilquade is a small town which lies in the picturesque setting in the shadow of the Wicklow Mountains and in between Kilpedder and Kilcoole.
It was a lovely sunny spring day with blue skies, ideal weather to walk about the well designed garden centre. There were rows and rows of tables laden with colourful shrubs, bushes and plethora of bedding plants and flowers.
There were some lovely smells emanating from the flowering scented blooms.
The main reason for our visit was to have lunch at Rachel's Garden Cafe at Arboretum.Written June 1, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We ambled around once, stopped for delicious cake and tea and ambled round again. With so many stunning plants to see two hours just about did it. If you are thinking of paying a visit, I urge you as you walk, to take in the surprises at each turn and the views offered as you walk. Colourful butterflies and buzzing bees were attracted by an abundance of pollinator-friendly plants. There are plenty of seats to sit on and take it all in.
TJ and Simon have created a little piece of heaven and deserve great credit. We can't wait to return.Written August 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The hosts and owners Alexander and Lydia are warm, welcoming and lovely conversation as they start your visit with a tour of their stunning and carefully tended garden, which is the gateway to their wondorous forest expanse. They will happily inform you of the history of the grounds as well as the wildlife that inhabits the property that they clearly are extremely proud to own. They will provide a map of the walkways too as well as hisotry around irish ringforts.
The trail is well maintained yet seems untouched as you make your way up to a Norwegian Shalleigh where can rest and maybe eat a packed lunch on the veranda as you take in the breathtaking Champion Oak trees which are over 300 years old. If you are lucky you may be able to sit and listen to the rain falling on the treetops.
The rest of the walk is thick with natural woodland, a pond and a ringfort.
It is a real treat and privilege to be able to experience such tranquil, and beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit and it is ideal to include with another planned Wicklow stop-off as it won't take up your whole day. Adm for adult €4.50. A unique experience that will stay long in the memory.Written August 11, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
