This would be a must for families , children would love it. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly, you get a chance to actually touch the birds if you want to and get to observe them up close in their cages. We saw a very playful golden ferret which I believe is quite rare. I gave it an excellent rating for that reason but as an older single traveler I probably wouldn't have gone, however I would recommend it.

My advice if you are not particularly fit is to climb from the non-coast side. It can be slippier/muckier but I think less demanding than the new steps on the coast side.
Great view from the top and do read about Queen Maeve before you climb as it makes it much more meaningful.

What a monolith! You can’t help but being amazed at Benbulb which dominates the county and the little villages and towns that rests under its shadow.

This is not a sandy beach but it is a fabulous beach for surfing. Plenty of cafes and restaurants for you to get refreshments. A lovely place to spend a day.

The HotBox Sauna is the best activity in Rossespoint. It’s a lovely log fire sea side sauna right next to a coffee shop, a restaurant and the tidal pool! Worth visiting any day any time of the year!!

This place re-ignited my interest in ancient history! I didn’t exactly know what I was getting into, as my wife made the plans to visit. We visited on a typically misty Irish day, and something about tromping around with umbrellas, visiting ancient tombs, made the place more special. (I’m sure visiting on a sunny day would be lovely too!). The displays in the visitors center were very helpful to review first. High-quality explanations. The staff member at the front desk was also SO helpful in answering all our questions. He pointed out that some of the images in the displays need to be updated, because they picture blond, blue-eyed ancestors, whereas the people living on this land at the time would have been brown-skinned.

I’d highly recommend this place. Visiting it early in our trip provided me with a grounding in pre-history that helped me to appreciate the rest of the ancient sites we explored.

Lots of ruins of abbeys in Ireland. That is for sure. This was another good one. Well worth seeing.

Getting here is no joke. The roads are tiny and you feel like you're just leaving your car in a field. BUT it is soooo worth it! The signage isn't great so we didn't know if we could go through the gate or not - you can - but we enjoyed our walk anyway. It was cold and rainy and windy, but we pressed on, sharing space with all the sheep. I think part of the adventure was just not knowing where we were going or when we'd arrive. (We didn't see anyone else until we left and ran into the farmer who was tending his land and sheep.) The landscape was lovely and when we finally got to the top and found the tombs were were in awe. So impressive! We only investigated the first 2 because we were literally fighting the wind to stand upright, but it was worth it. This was one of the highlights of our 8-day trip!
(You can skip about 15 minutes of the walk each way by driving through the gate and parking a bit further up the hill. I think it took us about 45 minutes each way.)

A visit to this beautiful, historical house is a must for fans of Irish history. Paul was a great tour guide, lively and personable. The tour itself however was perhaps a little rushed. The numbers on the tour were also quite large - I would suggest too large. It's also a pity that the house isn't in state ownership - as it's privately owned, the entire upstairs is off-limits.

The coach house has been turned into tea rooms, and although the space itself looks pretty, on a cold, wet and windy July day, the high ceilings and bare walls meant it was cold and uncomfortable to spend a few hours in before our tour started. There were also limited refreshments available - just a couple of traybakes, and tea and coffee.
