It is only 30 minutes by DART train from Dublin city center and the actual hiking can take anywhere for 1 to 6 hours depending on your pace and how much you explore the trails.
Its a great walk around the head of Howth and the view is spectacular and second to none.

The buildings have been wonderful restored, with the chapel housing some of the most beautiful stained glass windows I have ever seen; and the mosaic in front of where the altar would have stood was breathtaking.
We stopped here for a quick tour, but our tour guide clued us in to several attractions around town known only to locals, including the well blessed by Saint Colmcille in 560 A.D.

Considering the route goes through several busy areas, it's a quiet walk, with plenty of nice scenery (lots of gardens to view).
Fantastic place to avoid the cars and a safe place to run, walk or dog walk.
