Great fun! Amazing views out to sea and the fat bikes made covering more ground on the beach a real pleasure.
The delicious homemade flap Jack was an absolute bonus!! Definately recommend doing this if you visit Islay.

We took a route taking in the three south coast distilleries and were entertained by stories and tales from the crew - and a couple of 'friendly' sized drams of Laphroaig.
Our guide, Angus, was a fountain of local knowledge and provided loads of interesting facts about the wildlife and history of the island.

We walked out to the site, which is a short walk, partly on a trail and partly on a board walk.

If you want to know more about this Hebridean Island I suggest you turn your phone off and disappear into this beautifully preserved museum with engaging staff for a couple of hours.
An Essental stop if you want to learn more about the culture and history of Islay.

This was the highlight of our trip to Islay, a beautiful beach with amazing scenery.
Also good for a picnic in the parking area if the weathers good.

Great walk down to the shore from the beautiful old church ruins and graveyard.
There's another medieval cross there too, called the "Thief's Cross" because it's outside the hallowed church grounds.

If you have a couple of hours free and find you have distillery overload (very possible!) this is the perfect place for you!
We popped into this pottery randomly and had a fantastic fifteen minutes chatting with the (very) friendly owner and buying a souvenir to take home.

Islay is a beautiful island filled with amazing vistas.
As long as you don't mind cycling into the wind for a proportion of your trip, hiring a bike from Jim is something you have to do when visiting this beautiful island.

They have everything you need on a trip to the island - tea, coffee, cakes, cafe style snacks, wifi, large TV, eclectic gift shop, and they accept credit cards... it's like a modern haven when you're visiting rura...
Nice selection of tourist gifts and jewellery as well as greetings cards etc. Clearly a place for folk to meet up and have a blather as well as visitors coming from or heading to the Ferry.
