... the weather, it was light drizzle when we visited, but take the short walk through the field to the edge of the cliffs (protectively fenced) and enjoy the stacks, the towering cliffs and the fantastic bird life.
Park in the small car park (free) turn right at the lighthouse and follw the trak around the clifff top - if you are lucky you will get to see Puffins on the clifss but the views are amazing anyway

There's a great little self service farm shop too from which we stocked up on our travel supplies - home made cakes, scones and some locally blended coffee too.
Went after seeing the programme and had a lovely chat and very friendly animals, and nice wee souvenirs in shop, delightful.

My wife and I took the ferry (on time and providing indoor and outdoor seating) from John O'Groats and enjoyed beautiful scenery to and from these interesting islands and throughout our visit.
Reasonable departure times from John o' Groats and Kirkwall for spending the day on Orkney - a 40 minute ride across the channel - a little longer if it is windy or rough - it is a reliable ferry service -

... prices, directions to get there... Everybody was really kind and helpful It was amazing to see the workers distribute the cars in the ferry and give instructions to the drivers to make the most of the space.
Fantastic booking system - why do so many people try and do it the modern way???? Ring up,book, note your reservation number - simple.
