- 2J66Argyll22 contributionsUnique and very impressive the Forth Bridge is worth making a detour to see. Whilst there we took the opportunity to take the short 3 minute ride across the bridge by service train from Dalmeny to North Queensferry. Dalmeny station is only about 15 minutes walk from South Queensferry and trains are approximately every 30 minutes. We had a stroll round North Queensferry and then walked back over the Forth Road Bridge for even more stunning views. We took our time & the trip took just over a couple of hours.Written June 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK4,892 contributionsFeeling more like an elevated street than a bridge this impressive structure, which is over 300 yards long, was completed in 1832. It was designed by architect Thomas Hamilton in order to connect the South Side district of Edinburgh to the Old Town (Royal Mile) and then use exiting streets on the north to connect to the New Town.
Nowadays the bridge is a busy thoroughfare with several restaurants, bars etc., as well as some famous buildings such as the National Museum of Scotland and the National Library. Just as important however is the fact that at the southern end of the street, at the junction with Candlemaker Row, you can find the iconic and much loved little statue of Greyfriars Bobby.Written November 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Thanks to TA we were able to find out a little about it too. Unfortunately no where to park up as the lay-by had 2 cars in it! Walkable from nearby town.Written June 3, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Malgorzata12,108 contributionsThe bridge was installed around 1906 where Fountainbridge crossed the canal . When the canal was shortened in 1922 to make Lochrin Basin the terminus it was moved to its present site to replace a wooden drawbridge. A piece of historical infrastructure on the Union canal. It's a great location for photographers during sunset when the sky is clear. You can see often barges, ducks and swans in the canal. Close to the city centre, surrounded by old and new buildings, worth a look.Written January 4, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
