Spent a lovely couple of hours here looking around the house & chapel. ( Our visit around the garden was curtailed by the weather)
Used the audio tour which was very good. The tour was all on the ground floor & through interesting rooms, full of collected items belonging to Scott. The view of the River Tweed was glorious, I can see why Scott loved it here so much. We found the parking straightforward- £3 for 7 hours! He led an interesting life - what a shame the last few years were marred by bancruptcy, & not of his own doing.

Worth noting that the Abbey is mostly fenced-off for safety reasons, but you can still walk in the grounds and get pretty close up. Also worth noting that because of this, tickets are half-price. Plenty of information boards and an audio tour if you want it. Also access to a small museum adjacent. You really get a sense of history here.

My sister and I have just returned from 4 days walking the 62 mile St Cuthbert's Way. The variety of unspoilt scenery through woodland and pastures, alongside rivers and across hills with blooming heather, the peace and solitude and the good August weather made for a great trip. The route is well waymarked and we had OS maps and a guidebook for backup. One of the highlights was walking the pilgrim's route across the sands to Holy Island rather than on the very busy causeway road (information is available online on how to do this safely) then spending a night on the island which takes on a whole different feel when the day visitors have left. We would highly recommend all of it.

The garden is just across the road from the abbey exit and well worth a walk around - it would be especially lovely in summer.

This is a small but perfectly formed museum which welcomes dogs ( free dog biscuits on offer).
Tracing the Roman occupation of Scotland based upon the Trimontium fort at the Tweed crossing, most of the items are from the rubbish pits of the said fort.
Modern mock ups of military uniforms and weaponry are on show.
There are several very informative films.
    Helpful staff and volunteers.

Visited today whilst in Melrose. The garden felt rather neglected although I appreciate this is part of managing for wildlife! It was a good time to visit for garden produce and we did purchase some of the unusual heritage apples. I think what disappointed most was that I remembered Priorwood as being somewhere that specialised in growing cut flowers for drying but it seems this part of the garden's history no longer exists, there being just a few annual helichrysums about as a reminder. Its a pity as it would have given Priorwood that touch of individuality which it now lacks.

I have given this 4 stars but can easily understand why some people would rate it 1. If you have an interest in True Thomas it is a must, if not, it's not really worth a visit. The main problem is that the stone was originally placed in 1929 at the site of the Eildon Tree, but relocated in 1970. It does not explain where the original site was or indeed why it was relocated, so it's site here is of little relevance. Also curious to know why the road here is gated and no longer used by traffic, it does however provide a nice safe and quiet walk.

Great loop and lovely abbeys and scenery along the way. It is very hilly and as I'm not a regular cyclist I found it very challenging. Great day though.

Fab service. Bikes delivered and collected from our front door. Good instruction. Reliable bikes. Cycled over 50k in Scottish Borders and still plenty of battery power remaining. So enjoyable able to tackle and hill with ease. Will definitely be using again

I like this river a lot. We were going to go swimming in the river but we were going out to go to the tempest brewery in case it was closing and it was shut so we went to rhymers stone but I ended up needing the toilet so I couldn’t go swimming because it was getting worse but at least we went to Kelso too for a quick stop off. The views are nice and I would recommend you to go swimming here but remember before you go don’t drink much and go to the toilet so you don’t have any problematic situations.

We were given a very warm welcome when we ate there a couple of nights ago. The food, the wine and the service was of a high standard. We also went on to listen to a young local band in the hall behind the restaurant. It was so good to hear some live music. We would certainly visit again if in Melrose and would recommend this delightful restaurant.
