- ALISON HHarrogate, UK647 contributionsStunning scenery and full of surprises . We didn’t have a car so we’re reliant on public transport but we did see quite a lot of it . The bus to and from Swansea to Rhossili Bay has too different routes and thanks to that we saw different aspects and different views . Parts of the area are reminiscent of Dartmoor or Exmoor with animals belonging to locals with grazing rights wandering freely ……cattle , sheep and ponies . Used as I am to the beaches of Northumberland I was bowled over by Rhossili beach ! You probably need to have your own transport to appreciate the area properly .Written June 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LoveajollyNorthampton, UK124 contributionsSpectacular natural beach and the mile walk to it is beautiful too. Acres of lovely sand.

The bay is in the south eastern part of the Gower Peninsula near the (large) village of Bishopston; just under 2 miles west of Mumbles. The beach is a popular spot for tourism and locals use it for swimming, surfing, sunbathing and family recreational activities. The beach has sand and children were certainly enjoying that in the strong sunshine.
It is served well by the Gower and Swansea Bay Coast Path and it is only a walk of 1.2 miles west, around the golf club, to the next beach at Langland. We might take this walk another time if we decide to revisit the area.
The beach has good facilities with a reasonable sized carpark (charges apply) and public conveniences, plus a café and a beach shack. There also appears to be a bus service. There is a moderate sized chalet development here and also B&B / letting accommodation.
We didn’t stay long, just exploring the area, it was pleasant; but a bit of a younger person’s place. Not much stimulus for (dare I say) more sophisticated folk.Written June 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Better access from Llangennith than Rhosili end, but not for those with very limited mobility as you need to walk through the dunes.Written May 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cath TLincoln, UK7 contributionsOmg what a view 🩵
This place is a real gem - I could’ve been in the Algarve, weather was scorching.
Sea blue. Sand golden.
Hotel is amazing, service was great particularly from Holly.
Lunch plentiful and super tasty (even though I’m a hard to please gluten intolerant girl 🤣).

- MikeyG53Emersons Green, UK3,842 contributionsThe final morning of our short stay in Mumbles was lower-key compared to previous days. We stayed local to the town, where we had made a lunch reservation, before heading home.
We had seen signs to Langland Bay, and having visited another nearby bay we decided to visit here too, so we could compare merits for future visits (should we decide to).
We walked the 1.4 miles from our hotel to Langland beach and it was worth the effort. The descent from the Langland Heights area was steep (promising a harder walk back); but that did not dampen our high spirits; which had been lifted by some lovely sunny weather. Views were stunning.
The bay is well connected to the Gower and Swansea Bay Coast Path and it is only a walk, around the golf club, of 1.2 miles west to the next beach at Caswell. We might take this walk another time if we decide to revisit this area.
The beach has good facilities like parking, public conveniences, a café, a shop and an up-market Brasserie. There was no evidence of a bus service. There is a moderate sized chalet development, beach huts, benches to sit on, and also B&B / letting accommodation.
We didn’t stay long, just exploring the area, it was pleasant; mostly a family area, with perhaps some attractions for older folk. Some stimulus for more sophisticated folk, especially the Brasserie.
Swimming is very safe here as, according to signage, the sea-water is rated as excellent.Written June 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ben was very patience and detailed in explaining the skills and most importantly he is humourous. I was very slow in picking up the mountain boarding but Ben was patience and made me at ease. Ben was assisted by his friendly assistant Louis which catched me when I went off track. Ben also helped to take videos which was an added bonus. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend this activity to family who like to experience some thing new during their holiday in Wales.Written April 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MikeyG53Emersons Green, UK3,842 contributionsIt is not often that we make a visit to a ruined castle, but with a couple of hours before we could reasonably sit and have a late afternoon glass of wine, we decided to take a walk here to this castle on the hill above Mumbles.
On arrival the staff at the entrance said our visit needed to be brief, as there wasn’t going to be sufficient staff on duty (a member of staff couldn’t fulfil an upcoming duty). We were told that there was almost an hour before the site had to be closed. Despite this we felt we should make the best of our walk here, pay a concessionary fee, and have a wander around and into the castle.
The castle is named after the village and parish in which it is located. It was first built in the 12th century. Over the centuries has been rebuilt, expanded and restored, with the last restoration to preserve the castle earlier in this century. That work has established a visitors centre inside the main castle. Most of the rest of the castle is in partial ruins with, reasonably well constructed, supporting concrete and steel.
We walked around for about 45 minutes and some of the views were quite spectacular. Being pleased with our visit we thanked staff for their kind assistance.Written June 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CymruPentre, UK57 contributionsI visited this house at Christmas time for an event. The house has been decorated in the period from when Dylan Thomas lived there. - MikeyG53Emersons Green, UK3,842 contributionsThis attraction was visited on our first stroll around Mumbles during our short visit here. Initially the weather was quite overcast, but the sun started to break-through as the afternoon progressed.
The coast road through the town was fairly busy, and it was quite noisy because of the ongoing civil engineering work on the towns coastal storm defences. We pushed on out of town eastwards towards the point and visited the pier. The pier was not fully opened. There also seems to be an association with the RNLI who have a collection of buildings in the locale.
This pier is not typical of the genre, as it’s furthest point out to sea is the Lifeboat Station rather than the location of amusements and entertainments. From the look of the Lifeboat Station building it is being refurbished; it may be possible to visit (apparently reliant on volunteers) once the work is completed. Also the pier will then become fully opened. We would certainly like to visit when we get back to Mumbles maybe later in the summer.
The pier was rather quiet as it was out-of-the-season, and I guess it does become quite busy once the summer holidays start.
There is the usual café serving drinks and snacks but we has already stopped elsewhere for a snack lunch and then again for coffee.Written June 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
