- Victoria NGateshead, UK3,193 contributionsI really enjoyed my first visit here as part of a Heritage Open Day. The owners made you feel very welcome. There are several gardens to enjoy, a really peaceful place. The cafe was great which also included gluten free options. There is a small car park and overall it is great value and a lovely spot to enjoy. Dogs are also welcome on leads.Written September 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AlbywonSydney, Australia13,655 contributionsThis is a very small garden with a crescent shaped seating area made out of concrete. Very ornate and a nice statue of the Cardinal.
It is directly opposite the train station so convenient place to sit and have a bite while waiting for the trainWritten April 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK829,425 contributionsMy twin brother Stephen and I were pub hopping around this part of town when we chanced upon the beautiful St Andrew's Church, couldn't resist walking around the grounds for ten minutes or so ,as beautiful as the church is ,it was fascinating looking at the old tombstones, it was also nice to have a bit of a time out ,the garden area is so tranquil, looking at the old church was wonderful, it's most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Newgate Street.Written October 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil KLiverpool, UK829,425 contributionsOn a week's holiday in Newcastle I was walking along the Quayside heading to The Quayside Pub when across the River Tyne more or less adjacent to Sage I spotted this church standing proudly overlooking the majestic river ,slightly intrigued, after my twin brother Stephen and I had enjoyed breakfast in The Quayside Pub and a few real ales we crossed Swing Bridge which brings you over to Gateshead and visit St Mary's Church.
No longer a practicing church, it's now a heritage centre, parts of this church building date from the 13th century, its a beautiful church, walking around the gardens was fascinating considering this was the only church in Gateshead till 1825 the gardens and graveyard are particularly small, beautifully kept, so cool looking at the ancient grave markers ,the gardens look super and the views afforded from the gardens of The River Tyne and bridges are awesome, its a beautiful church and garden area and most definitely well worth checking out if you're on this side of the River Tyne in Gateshead.Written October 9, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A lovely oasis of calm, well kept grounds, so tranquil, what I found fascinating was the ancient tombstones, gives an indication of the serious history attached to this church, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Church Road.Written October 27, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
