From a historical point of view the building is fantastic,in particular the crypt and very friendly and welcoming volunteers.I was very impressed by the little exhibition, too.
There's a great little museum / visitor centre in site, and a café serving proper home made food- a true hidden gem in Hexham

We were able to visit Vindolanda & Housesteads both wonderful historical sites and just amazing to imagine how they were built and see artefacts left by Romans and local people alike.
Lots of wonderful walking, clear paths, fantastic views on both sides and excellently interesting museums.

Warm and friendly staff really interesting place gives you a wonderful view of how hard life must have been for Roman Soldiers stationed there, bit of a walk from the visitor centre but worth it even in December!!...

A great walk along the Roman Wall in glorious sunshine and a visit to the well organised and impressive military fort site.
You can also get an excellent view of Hadrian's wall extending beyond the fort itself which is very impressive.
