- TravelinMan004Bristol County, MA46 contributionsI don’t know what I can say about the British Museum that others haven’t already said.
Probably one of the most amazing museums I have ever visited. You will learn and relearn so much about the ancient cultures from around the world up to modern times. The Rosetta Stone is one of the first objects you see — and it only gets more interesting from there.
Prepare to spend at least a half day, even then you will see only a fraction of the collections on display.Written October 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - soinicLux.2,859 contributionsYou should book free! tickets 3 weeks in advance, in order to visit the lush, beautiful roof top garden!
With tickets and timed slot, you still had to queue and wait to enter the building. Security cheek, don't bring your own food/drink.
Friendly staff.
Quick ride up with the elevator and once you enter the sky garden, outstanding, breathtaking views are waiting for you. The view of the Shard and Tower are the highlights!
You can order snacks&drinks at the bar, a little pricy ... but worth to enjoy with the great view.
Some years ago we went to Fenchurch restaurant to have dinner and enjoyed it, this time we came during daylight, walked around the superb and well kept garden and it was again a perfect "thing to do" in beautiful London.Written October 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots to see but extremely crowded and by far the most kid-friendly museum in London (so lots of children and families). Some of the areas/exhibits could use a refresh, but overall a good museum and a gorgeous building.
Free entry but book your timed entry online so you can avoid the general entrance queue.Written October 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sheepygoldlondon5,478 contributionsWe came specifically for the Van Gogh exhibition. There were no tickets available for many days and none at all at weekends so we bought ourselves annual membership as we live in London and will come back a number of times within a year. The exhibition was absolutely stunning, lots of paintings I hadn't seen before from private collections and museums from various continent.Written October 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ava CxHalifax, Canada5 contributionsSurpassed my expectations. Loved the vibe and the atmosphere and was emotional when I saw the amy winehouse memorial statue, her legacy really does live on here… top tip make sure you go there hungry as the food is mouthwatering!!!Written October 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - purpletravllerGlasgow, UK352 contributionsFabulous building which houses a huge collection of fascinating items sure to appeal to all ages. It would be impossible to cover the museum in one visit. We covered a fraction of the collection before going to the Fragile Beauty (photographs from Sir Elton John) exhibition. Admission to the museum is free and it cost £20 for the exhibition. The restaurant was really busy and weren’t able to eat there but it is worth going into to see the fabulous space/decor. The shop has to be one of the best museum shops and several purchases were made.Written October 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - evets1232016Sydney, Australia438 contributionsIt's hard to add to what others have already said, if you are visiting London you just have to do it, and it will be worth it. We pre-booked our tour, including an audio guide, and that all went pretty smoothly, excepting that it was not always easy to find exactly the painting the audio was discussing. Most of the palace is not open to the public, so it doesn't take that long to go through, that surprised me. It's just my opinion, but I think the Palace of Westminster is much more interesting to visit, better value, and a lot less crowded.Written October 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael PMason, OH490 contributionsNot many people get to tour INSIDE the tower, but if you can secure one (months in advance) snag it! You’ll climb lots of stairs, but you’ll be rewarded with fascinating stories plus see the inner workings of the clock, stand next to the bells when they chime, and go behind the clock faces! It’s so cool! No photography is allowed on the tour - in fact they require you to store them in a locker at the start of the tour.Written October 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Peter DrakeLiverpool, UK5 contributionsIt should be a rule that everyone has to see the Houses of Parliament. It is the seat of our democracy after all. More than this, it would let people know just exactly how it all works. It's not just the debating chamber, but zillions of committee rooms, and other places where the laws of this country are made. And it is fascinating. My American friends were in awe of the majesty of the place and the fact that if you wait long enough you will see some famous person or other wander by. Not like that in the US, apparently.Written October 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
