Visited on a poor weather day, taking a long circular from Ambleside via Rydal hall and Skelwith bridge.

Our grandson chose to come here on our short break in the Lakes. The property is a short walk along the road from the car park, with clear instructions given to get here. The house is just as it was left, with Beatrix's hat on the chair, and shoes under it. It is not a s large a property as some, but it is fascinating. The garden is only small and there is a mobile catering van in a grass area by the garden, but it is not National Trust.

Absolutely brilliant day out at tree top challenge !! All the guys were brilliant , especially Mathew - an awesome host and safety guide . Our 12 year old wasn’t sure after the first couple of obstacles , but didn’t give up - and he was so happy to finish the course . Loads of adventure and zip lines . Well worth the money and Grizedale forest is stunning .

Great forest to explore the way marked trails with sculptures hidden for you to find. Easy parking and good visitor centre, cafe and toilets

This is such an enchanting house and garden. The staff are so informed and have a nice way of explaining as much or as little as you want to know whilst leaving you to look, stare, and cogitate on what life must have like in a small dark room at that time - but still charming.

It is unfortunate that we went to this place as late as we did. The staff were not exactly rushing us off but it WAS late in the day and they were doing their watering as well as they could around us. They have a huge range and it will be nice to go back when we all have more time.

Well located for a walk around Rydal water or a walk into Grasmere. However please note that White Moss car park has several bad reviews for aggressive parking company tactics for issuing fines. My own experience recently confirms this.
Arrived at the car park (which has ANPR cameras on entry/exit). Parked and studied the pay machine instructions which are NOT clear. Paid for 2 hours parking through contactless. No ticket or receipt issued but machine said approved. Had a lovely walk and rest of week in Lakes. Got home and two days later received a £100 parking fine for alleged violation. Checked my bank statement to confirm I had paid. Then had the hassle of contacting them to complete appeal process, which was successful. Very poor communication from Initial Parking with no apology for their error. Having read several reviews it appears there is a very aggressive philosophy in place to squeeze parking charges out of innocent motorists. Reviews suggest some people are scared into paying which is appalling. If parking there please take every possible precaution to be able to prove you paid correctly!
    Enjoy the walking and scenery!

what a trip but actually the clear blue skies and hot weather certainly helped, been on this pass before in February the weather then was clear but today even better.

The bridge house itself is a quaint little building over the river. If you follow the river down toward the car park you will find a nice short walk toward the park.

We decided to make our way around Esthwaite Reservoir, after visiting Windermere and it being so busy, it was the school holidays though. We thought we might find a quieter spot. Missed a turn and then nearly immediately came a cross this car park right on the banks of the reservoir. Quiet too. Lovely spot with a cafe a short walk away, which we didn’t try in this occasion but will next time. We got our picnic chairs out and just sat on the banks of the reservoir and enjoyed the outstanding views. Two gentlemen standing down from us with binoculars then alerted us to the fact that there were ospreys flying and fishing over the reservoir so we got our binoculars from the car and sat watching them for a while. They were nesting by the water. A lovely experience in a beautiful spot. Just perfect.

Visiting the lakes, we decided to have a Freedom of the Lake boat and train day. The pier is picturesque, and the boat ride to Bowness to pick up the larger boat was very nice. The grandson and i sat outside, and the steward wiped the seats as it had been raining. We were referred to over the tannoy guide as the two intrepid travellers sitting outside which made us laugh

We were only allowed in a few rooms on the ground floor so it was disappointing and there's hardly anything to see. Think we paid full price for that too. The walk around the grounds is lovely though.

This small school was a pleasant little trip back into the past. I was completely fascinated by the original desks that date back to 1585. Looking at the carved names and initials made me feel like I was connected to someone from long ago. The documents in the upstairs room gave a great glimpse into local history. It os definitely worth the small price and takes about an hour of your time.

A proper, strenuous days hike, once you're up views are fantastic if you get the weather. loved it and the pint in Ambleside afterwards well deserved after 8 hours exercise.
