This place has 3 floors of exhibits and information. We loved the random facts and kids activities throughout the museum. It kept preteen/teens (and adults) entertained. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.

This was initially a stop for a bathroom break and a chance to get out of the sun, but turned out to be so much more. It was a nice bonus to get to tour one of the ships docked with our admission.

Parking in Lunenberg was a nightmare, but we found parking right at the waterfront and it was worth the $4 an hour

We luckily sailed on a beautiful, sunny day with plenty of wind. The crew was very friendly and happy to answer questions. The Bluenose II is beautiful, and such a treasure. This sailing tour was definitely a highlight of our vacation to Nova Scotia.

The historic district is very beautiful and a pleasant walk up and down the streets and along the waterfront. It would be nice to see some more public information posted about the history of the buildings.

great little distillery - samplings readily available - knowledgeable staff - great hours as most of Lunenburg operates on a 11am to 4 pm schedule ( or are closed)

This little village just outside Lunenburg is really beautiful. Park and walk along the waterfront to see rustic old fishing cabins and modern new homes. Absolutely gorgeous, even on an overcast day.

So this review is horrendously late. My girlfriend and I visited this fantastic place (or rather stumbled upon it) during a trip to Canada for a friend's wedding that we extended into a holiday to Nova Scotia. It was a warm September in 2018 (not 2019 but TA will not let me input earlier) and we were out biking the back roads heading back to our B&B when I cam across a sign indicating this railway museum. Now I love my trains and the girlfriend was willing to tolerate a detour. I expected to have fun as I love watching model trains and I was NOT disappointed but the happier occurrence was my girlfriend's taking to the passion, whimsy and knowledge of the owner of this fine passion project of an establishment. They chatted happily away about running a small museum while I gazed at tiny trains passing through meticulously created historical local landscapes. A true joy and I'm sorry it took me so long to say so BUT I've only recently started a TA profile.

Oh My! Even if you are not a quilter, or have no general interest in the craft of quilting (such as I), you cannot help but be totally captivated by the beautiful works of art (and that’s essentially what Laurie Swim’s quilts are) which are on display in this enchanting little gallery. Laurie Swim, now in her 70s, is a Nova Scotian artist / quilter who has taken the craft of quilting to a much higher level - a spectacular art form rather than a colourful throw for your bed.

I found myself peering closely at amazing stitchings, beautiful threads and fabrics and textiles, gorgeous colour combinations, and the intricate use of tiny shells and crystals and the like, which adds another wonderful dimension to her works of art.

I’d heard about the artist via her incredible ’Hope and Survival’ memorial quilt which she created for the commemoration of the 1917 explosion which ripped Halifax apart 100 years ago, as we were exploring sites relating to this event in Halifax.

This gallery is certainly worth a visit, to see a collection of Laurie’s works at close range. There’s quite a number of her quilts on display. The assistant at the gallery was helpful, explaining Laurie’s work and giving information about her techniques and how she goes about creating her masterpieces (because that is what they are).

The gallery is free to visit; there’s a nice collection of cards and books for purchase there.

It’s located at 138 Lincoln Street in Lunenburg, towards the western end of the town. It’s a must for quilters and art lovers alike! For those with mobility impairments, note that there are some stairs up to the gallery entrance.

The house itself is woth the stop just to get the feel of Lunenburh during that time.
The furnishings are not original to the house , but are representative of the period.

It was open farm day today across Nova Scotia so we took a trip to Heckman’s Island just outside of Lunenburg to see Terra Beata Cranberry Farm. While the shop is open year round, there is only one day of the year where you can tour the processing facility. About a dozen people joined the owner for an extended tour of the farm and facility where we learned all about cranberries - everything from planting, growing, and harvesting to processing the berries. It was fascinating and inspiring to meet someone who had a vision and worked hard to achieve it. We sampled blueberry ginger lemonade, homemade granola bars and cranberry shortbread which were all Amazing with a capital A. Terra Beata Farm very generously supplied the recipes too which I plan to make tomorrow. The farm offers a cranberry u-pick just in time for Thanksgiving which I will definitely be going to. We loved our tour and wish this enterprise all the success it deserves.

Stopped in for Fish and Chips on Wednesday Aug 4 th . Best Fish n Chips I've ever had . Was welcomed by the owners who also own the Art Gallery , such talent . They also make there own ice cream , was too full from the amazing fish n Chips . Nice picnic tables with umbrellas for shade and dog friendly . Friendly folks who shared lots of knowledge of things to do and see in the area . The Crosby Greenhouse in Liverpool/Brooklyn NS they told us about was amazing . Looks like nothing from the front but behind is sculptures all through the forest , never seen anything like it . Thanks so much for the suggestion and it was free . Thank you again for the great meal and conversation. Stay well and much success in the future. Cheers !

A stunning exhibit. Personable artist, but a little bit too much pressure to buy his work. Worth a visit.

We enjoyed browsing the paintings and prints by Robert Purcell and bought some art for our home. Met lady who I think was the artist's granddaughter - very informative talk about the artist. Glad we stopped there!

I had heard of this park but had never gone before. It would be a great place to take a family for a picnic on the picnic tables and you can walk down to the shore. There’s a beautiful beach not far away. The day I was there it didn’t look like there were a lot of people, so I don’t believe many people go there.
