What travelers are saying
- Xavier G1 contributionAwesome!
Went there with a couple of friends to enjoy the island and winery, and we weren't disappointed! Bikes aren't brand new but definitely up for what you rent them for, and for the price you get them.
Guys in the shop are cool, full of good advices and will give you a map (there's also a phone holder on the bike) to get to your destination.
As it's a small busy island, main roads are busy but not crazy busy, much safer than Auckland CBD at 5 pm. The small road are pretty chill, even though its a hilly island so you sometimes need to push little harder on the pedals (electric bikes does the job, but you need to pedal a bit anyway 😉)
They also have electric mopeds, next time we'll probably go for them!
Good fun, good team and good prices!Written April 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sheron2 contributionsWe had such a wonderful time on our cycling tour with Power to the Pedal. Eddie was an amazing guide, we all gained so much knowledge about Auckland whilst taking in some beautiful sites. I have been coming to NZ for years for business trips and this is one of the best experiences I have ever done here. There was so much I had never seen of this city. At the same time it felt exhilarating cycling down the hills and cycling up Mount Eden to take on breathing taking views of Auckland. Eddie gave great instructions regarding the bikes and cycling as I had not been on a bike for 20 years , anyone of any level of fitness will thoroughly enjoy this experience. A great day out for the family or a group of friends. Highly recommend booking this into trip into your holiday schedule.Written May 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - IanOwaka, New Zealand3 contributionsSnorkel experience was great with lots of sea life viewed up close in a marine conservation area. Additional pleasure was the Goat Island dive team allowed us to use weight belts, which allowed us to free dive and swim amongst the fish shoals. By comparison this was not allowed on a similar snorkel expedition to the Poor Knights.Written May 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JadeosMornington Peninsula, Australia12 contributionsEven before we arrived to the island Pete and Lucy were so helpful to chat to about hire on the island! But when we arrived they were above and beyond, welcoming my partner and I into their incredible paradise. We left with happy bellies from the best fish we’ve ever had, a new fishing addiction from the incredible expertise of Pete and with two new friends.
I highly recommend Saddles and Paddles be the place you choose to stay or just to visit and hire a kayak, a scooter, and definitely go for a fish!!
Thanks for making our trip the Barrier the best Pete and Lucy!!
We can’t wait to come and back and hire scooters, check out the new moon baths and catch up again!Written April 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Staff was very helpful as it was our first time on e-bikes, which was much appreciated for some of the hills. We got lost a bit riding around, but that’s the point, right? Some of the roads were busy and some sidewalks were narrow, so be conscious of traffic. They had helmets, locks and good map.Written April 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AnushaWellington, New Zealand1 contributionIt was an amazing experience we enjoyed as a family. We saw so many fish and my husband and daughter was fortunate enough to see one of the longest/biggest fish in the river. The weather was beautiful and we didn't feel the time passing. Kip was very helpful and went that extra mile to make the most of it.
Highly recommend . Thanks Kip and the Clearlake team.Written March 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Explore the little town and its typical kiwi style suburbs, ride along and around the estuary and along the Orewa Beach. And Orewa is flat, totally flat with no difficult hills to climb. So you not even require an electric bike. With about $20 per hour and a very friendly service you should be fully satisfied.Written December 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Weary235London, UK67 contributionsWe rented two mountain bikes from Jonathan and they were great. We had no problems with them at all. We made it all the way around the island but it was hilly. We didn't have time to stop at as many vineyards as I would have liked. We should have listened to Jonathan's recommendations for a shorter route!
We rented different bikes in other towns on this NZ trip and none were as good as Jonathan's.Written April 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel SOwego, NY796 contributionsGet the bike for the day. They rent for three hours but it is just too short. The price difference is not that much.
We got our bike in Devonport at the information store. Also rent the day before to have the bikes ready for you.

The handover was flawless and the bike itself had all I requested (side cases and top case). It had the official BMW GPS system, USB plug to charge the phone and they threw in a brand new GIVI tank bag which I always find very useful on long trips. The bike itself was in mint conditions, to the point that I never needed any assistance. Communication was fast and easy. I rode the bike for over a month with no issues. The handover was quick and easy as well :-) Thank you again for such fantastic memories !Written March 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Everything went swimmingly except for one patch of difficulty. On the first morning, about 40 minutes in, there was a jamming somewhere. I turned the bike upside down, using the derailleur, got the chain connected properly. However, there was still jamming and I worked out that the chain was not engaged properly at the hub of the back wheel. I managed to rectify this although there seemed to be a bit of chain looseness over the period of my bike hire. By changing up, I tended to diminish the problem. Overall though, I thought the bike was great, similar to my own. Maybe , the bike could have done with an expert look just prior to hiring in the kind of nerve centre areas.... pedal/chain. I had no problems with the person I got the bike off, and maybe it was a bit of bad luck.Written February 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
