A really special place which is well worth a visit if you're on the North Island of NZ. The tour from Vishwa was awesome too.

The views at the end make it worthwhile. Given there is only one feasible way up, as well as everyone arriving on the same boat, expect some foot traffic on the way up. Would recommend going back down a different (less direct) route for a more peaceful walk. It is a lovely escape from the city, and would definately take advantage of stopping off in Devenport on your return.

A group of us booked out the Superintendent’s House and had a fantastic stay. We enjoyed walks, swimming, birdwatching and phosphorescence at night!

We went in June and practically had the island to ourselves. Very special.

    Highly recommend!

as all yachties and surfers know;Aucklands peculiarly elongated shape gives it two harbours i.In the southweat the slightly ominous waitemata,in the centre and East the glorious Hauraki gulf.
In fine weather it is a sparkling plate bedecked
with islands, like the retro waiheke;the recent volcano Rangitoto, which when seen from above welcomes kiwis home

We had a lovely time on the island thanks to the camp's operations manager. Can highly recommend a trip over to the island, which is super close to Auckland.

We camped on Motuihe and loved it. We caught The Red Boats over from Auckland, this ferry service was great (can't complain). Booking the campsite (doc camp) was done online. Camp has flush toilets, the toilet block looks newly built and is very nice, water needs to be boiled or treated, no showers (we knew this before booking) with good open spaces to camp in.

2 beaches to swim at with close walking distance from camp. Camp is also close walking distance from the wharf. Walks also available to do on the island if you want to. Safe swimming.

Loved it, definitely recommend day visiting or camping.

This is a great little island, accessible by boat only, about an hour north or Auckland (between Tiritiri Matangi and Kawau Islands). There is a a very small old-school bach that is available to rent and a campground on a pristine, white sand beach. The island is home is a pest-free reserve and a nursery for Kiwi and other native birds. Great swimming, snorkelling, and fishing. The hosts are wonderfully helpful and you can often have this island (mostly) to yourself outside of obvious peak times and holiday weekends. It is about a 3 hour kayak from Mahurangi. Otherwise take your boat (or a water taxi out of Sandspit). Highly recommended.
