- 422ianaDunedin, New Zealand3,102 contributionsI am not sure I have been in a colder cinema. It was a very warm day outside, but it was colder than the coldest day in Dunedin. It really spoiled the visit to watch the Wonder Woman. Take a jacket if you go on a hot day.Written February 5, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ElleNew Zealand8 contributionsIt's a cinema. Personally, I don't buy snacks or drinks, but all cinemas sell them overpriced anyway, so there's really no difference. It shows movies, and it fulfils the purpose of a cinema. The movies are good, and sometimes I watch them. There's no reason to take away a star. Anyway, I'm really attached to this place, and have had many good memories here!
Book tickets online if the movie is popular because it'll sell out otherwise. If it's not Endgame, it probably won't be necessary though.Written June 24, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AcinetoAuckland Central, New Zealand20,073 contributionsI came by to watch an anime movie since they were the only ones screening it on the day. Keep an eye out for their signs near the library. Getting there involves walking downs a lot of stairs but you end up at the entrance and counter.
It was easy enough to get the tickets online and then just popping straight into the cinema. They did have the standard snacks available like popcorn and ice cream. We were running a bit lateish so we came in as the ads going but the outside area looked quite comfortable to wait in.
The theatres are decently sized and were quite comfortable. It was easy enough to find the chairs. It was quite a nice place to watch a movie. They also have $5 Wednesdays for cheap movie options mid-week.Written November 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Margy DAuckland, New Zealand1 contributionSuper experience, make their own ice cream in cone , like capucino, hazelnut, yum! Great friendly service, delightful old style, but the seats ar the back are doubles! Sooo good. Loved it. Great atmosphere in and around devonport too. - nzcowladyAuckland99 contributionsWe chose Lux because it was the only cinema in the city with the movie we wanted to see at a reasonable hour after a busy week of work. The web site made no mention of what the Lux experience included and we elected to pay seriously inflated seat prices as a treat.
We now know the ticket includes a drink and popcorn, and taking this cost off the ticket price makes this an overall experience at an acceptable price (as long as you understand the overall package you're signing up for). This is not an everyday family cinema but we'd go again as a couple for a movie we really wanted to see on the big screen.
Staff we interacted with were helpful eg alerting us to the drink (served in an actual glass) and popcorn inclusion. And while the toilets were unmarked (gender neutral but nothing to explain this) and not serviced (no soap or toilet paper) when we advised staff of the issues they gave us the impression these would be addressed immediately.Written June 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nik LBayswater, New Zealand21 contributionsThe staff at Berkeley Takapuna are always lovely and really helpful. Parking in the area can be a bit of an issue as the car park is usually quite full and you cannot guarantee that you'll get a park.
The cinema itself isn't a large complex however the toilets are located downstairs from the actual cinema so make sure you pop to the loo first!Written January 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was lovely and interesting too as you go over footbridges, see wildlife like herons and cormorants, around the Bay with elevated views at times that are lovely. As you walk over the railway bridge you get a good view of the city skyline too. There is a cafe once you cross the bridge which is apparently good too. All in all an interesting and lovely walk.Written March 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Saki3 contributionsLarger seats make the longer films far more comfortable, plenty of room to put a glass of wine and not be fighting for arm space with your neighbour. A smaller boutique size cinema, with a good range of films.Written August 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GeoPad5 contributionsSpent $120 online for 3 lux seats. only drink option orange juice or glass of water with ticket. Lux seats are along the top 2 back rows by the entrance. We had staff walking back and forward through the movie serving people. It was a real pain. And the light shining in from the open door. Not an enjoyable experience felt ripped off!Written September 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MikaelaSwardRed Beach, New Zealand7 contributionsMy first ever movie in New Zealand was in cinema 2, January, at Hoyts Whangaparoa, and I was just amazed over how comfortable it was. The others are great as well, and you can without any problem watch a long movie here. Service is amazing, friendly and if you have any problem with the service, just inform them and they will do what they can to fix the issue.
Great sound, great screen, good prices. - Linda KAuckland Central, New Zealand734 contributionsI enjoy the Rialto. It is a great antidote to Event cinemas and I can almost always get the movies I want to see there. However, as others have said the quality of the experience has deteriorated a bit of late.
I almost always book online but there is still often a significant queue at peak times to pick up tickets. Most recent visit was better as they’re scanning barcodes and printing tickets more quickly than before.
There is a great range of tea and you can get decaf coffee too which is excellent in the evening. Kapiti ice cream is great and there is a very significant selection of wine and you can take glasses into the theatre. There are also a few hot snacks available which is good if you’re in a rush. The small foodhall alongside is also handy for a quick bite before the movie.
The theatres themselves are a bit tired and need a good steam clean.Written September 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
