- S ChuaBrunei-Muara District, Brunei Darussalam14 contributionsA great day out just browsing through the shops and soaking in the ambience. - ITRTVirginia38,544 contributionsA visit to Parnell Village will surprise you to know it was once a Bohemian paradise. Today it is gentrified and known for its wonderful restaurants, charming cafes, and expensive shops. Parnell was established as New Zealand’s first suburb in 1841. It is filled with many ivy-covered buildings and narrow brick lanes. Worth taking the time to explore this delightful village.Written April 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is accessible from the train station and on several bus routes - making it very convenient to get around without driving.Written November 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This waterfront area is located between between Viaduct Harbour and Westhaven Marina is the waterfront area. This formwe port area has been transformed into a hip and modern additionto Viaduct Harbour.
This area is full of lively bars and restaurants. We dined at several during our stay including the Aucklasnd Fish Markets.
You can even take a ride around the Wynyard Loop on an authentic 1920s Auckland tram.
Its a good area to hang out.Written January 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were only 2 main buildings there, one is Shed 10 and the other one is a very unique looking building; a white long waving-shaped structure. From the ferries I can see it clearly. It is "The Cloud", a facility used for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. It's now used as a multi purpose event venue. We went there for a closer look and it was open. There was a big area with only a few people playing badminton at one corner. Otherwise nothing else was going on. Then we went outside on the wharf to enjoy the harbour view. - Sue MWilliamsburg, VA1,464 contributionsOur tour guide brought us to Grey Lynn to show us an up & coming neighborhood that has plenty of shopping, restaurants, & bars as well as the small homes & cottages being preserved instead of being demolished.Written March 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul LegateUnited Kingdom20,367 contributionsTakutai Square is in the Britomart area of the city, it is a unique urban space which is used for many events including open air cinema screenings and music events. When we visited the square it was busy as it was Waitangi Day so there were many people enjoying the sunny spells and relaxing in the square.Written March 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RedheadRebelChristchurch, New Zealand75 contributionsI am spending 2 nights just off Queen St near Civic Theatre. I was born in Auckland, moved away then came back and lived for a few years as an adult in the 90’s. I loved coming into the city, shopping, dining and wandering around, it was vibrant and wonderful. Now 28 years later I am appalled at the state of the place, I walked up and down Queen Street last night 4-6pm and must have seen 30+ homeless people living rough in doorways and calling out to me as I walked past (they choose to not go to shelters because they can’t drink or beg there right?) I actually started to feel unsafe to be honest! Also lots of homeless drunks, (a group of them came into the supermarket Countdown and acted like they own the place), I actually started to feel unsafe to be honest! Garbage all around, shops abandoned and boarded up. The stunning IMAX theatre complex now a wasteland taken over by skateboarders. What a terrible first impression for our much needed tourists ‘Welcome to New Zealand’ what a disgusting image. Auckland Council should be ashamed! The derelicts, homeless and bums need to be moved on and there needs to be a police presence on the beat patrolling. The city centre of our largest city should be something to be proud of. Message to our tourists:… Please move on, go to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and all the wonderful places in between, Auckland is not a true representation of our beautiful country.Written June 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
