Amazing close up experience. Go and visit see Mr Octopus. A lovely couple of hours. The people who run this are so kind and animals so well cared for. Great for the kids and adults. Please support them.

We visited the Cretan Aquarium and it really is a jewel for Crete! There is a great variety of sea creatures and living marine organisms worth a visit! Then we went to Gouves for food at the Asteria Garden restaurant once again! Another jewel of the area with wonderful Cretan food and garden with exotic flowers and bougainvillea! Also recommended for visitors to the aquarium!

'Matala Beach' is a very pretty, historic little cove due south of Iraklion. The little beach town has numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, but the water and the caves are the main draw here.
Crystal clear - if wavy/choppy - water will lure you in. Brace yourself for high winds, and thus being sand-blasted, but if you can tolerate that, there are some nice caves to visit and the water is great!

The pittoresque beach with red sand and a small bar. When we were on the beach there was not sunbeds. Sometimes local goats visit rocks around the beach and watch visitors. A path to the beach leads from Matala village, 30 minutes about.

6 mins by car from our Hotel in Malia, recommended by a local. Shallow sandy beach, sun beds two for €10 all day.
Lifeguard, snack trailer and loos. Two beachside restaurants nearby. See lovely and clean and warm early June. Recommended.

We drove here from Heraklion as we did a road trip around the island and were surprised when we walked around the corner to find out it was a nude friendly beach. If you're into that this is the perfect secluded beach in Crete with not a lot of foot traffic or services. If you're not into that the nearby Matala Beach is for you.

Small but busy, you'd need to get there early! Nice little benches, coves and rocks to sunbathe on for the hard core!

The Old Venetian Harbor of Heraklion is a captivating insight to the city's rich history and architectural heritage. It's a fascinating blend of Venetian and Ottoman cultures and is a relatively short walk from the cruise terminal.

The views are great, the sea is wonderful, and everything was just magnificent! I would definitely go there! It has a few cute restaurants there, the water is very nice, and it’s a great place to go to.

nice beach with waves you can jump unlike other spots we went to in greece. We were sitting near a restaurant called heaven and you can use their chairs/umbrellas and only have to spend 5 euros on a drink/food while your there. Sandy beach, rocky going into the water and then its sandy. Bring your water shoes.

The road to the Gorge parking area and trail head is not that bad, but if not used to driving on bumpy-rocky narrow steep dirt roads this may not be for you. Also not recommended driving this road after heavy rain, as there are a few sections where clearly a river crosses the road with no alternate way around.

There was plenty of parking at the trail head and an opportunity to buy snacks and drinks at the food truck. We packed in waters, lunch, snacks, beach wear, etc.

The hike through the gorge to the beach is not difficult, no major elevation inclines/declines. It is a very hot hike but not super long.

There is no shade at the beach, so pack in an umbrella or find a spot along the cliff walls which provide a few hours out of the sun. The water is crystal clear and very calm the day we went. The small beach sits between two dramatic cliffs and is lagoon-like. There were maybe 25-30 people total on the beach that day. Basically you have the place to yourself to just sit and/or soak and savor the beautiful views.

Episcopi is a very long beach (over 2 hrs to walk one way), but we were around the centre, at Chrysos Asterias. There are other beach clubs nearby. Water is clear and clean. Mostly sandy but there are occasional patches of pebbles in a few areas where we walked, not swimming. If the wind comes from the west or north it can be a bit rough, but not enough to prevent swimming. We really enjoyed it. Sunbeds were €7/per set which is very good value, and comfortable. The waiter service is good.
