On our journey around Sella Ronda we made a stop at Passo Sella. was. It was a sunny day and we had wonderful views onto the mountains all around. We also saw two marmots running around about a hundred metres away.

This church is a Gardena valley simbol.
It is located above Ortisei and can be well reached also from Santa Cristina, following the "path of the legend", that is telling the hiker the legend of the church and St.James.
Definitely worth a visit, a real jewel with magnificent surroundings on the Sasso Lungo and Sasso Piatto

Stunning valley of mountain view and definitely worth to visit from March-early October. Without hiking, this spot is excellent to get amazing shot! You can see many marks on Google map, and this is the good one too. Just park nearby shop or restaurant.
Beginner driver is not recommended to drive and you can plan for lunch at hotel in this area (pls check open hour again).

This is an absolutely breathtaking church . The Parish Church of Urtijëi located in the town of Urtijëi in Val Gardena in South Tyrol, Italy is dedicated to the Epiphany and to Saint Ulrich.

It was built in the years 1792–1796 in the Neoclassical style with some Baroque elements by the tyrolean master Joseph Abenthung and the interior domes painted by the Tyrolean brothers Franz Xaver and Josef Kirchebner. The structure of the church has the form of Latin cross with a central nave and two lateral chapels dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to Our Lady of the Rosary.
The church contains a great number of sculptures, mostly in wood, carved by artists from Val Gardena, including Vigil Dorigo, Luis Kostner, Josef Moroder-Lusenberg, Anton Pitscheider and Franz Ruggaldier. In the corners of the presbytery there are four plaster statues, created by Johann Dominik Mahlknecht (German Wikipedia) for this church but never cast in bronze, representing the four Evangelists. The stained glass windows are a matching set, each one containing a roundel with the head of one of the Twelve Apostles.

We visit castles across Europe. Many, over many years. Trostburg is very special. It is our favourite castle of all countries that we have visited. The personal tour given by our guide was wonderful. The castle is extraordinary and too wonderful to describe fully. Park at the bottom and walk up. It's hard going, very steep and will take 25 minutes, certainly not less. Make sure to get there for 10 otherwise it will be just so hot making the climb. The reward is total bliss. We had to photograph it almost out of existence, inside it, outside it, from above, from below, from across the valley at Barbiano. When you see the fruit press, the medieval kitchen, the wooden bedroom, the portcullis, the galleries, you will be blown away by the Volkensteins.

...officially closed off (no entrance allowed). The climb is a little challenging, watch out for wandering cows.

We passed this castle on our balcony route from Plan, Selva to St Christina. It is not worth walking to for viewing it unless you are on the balcony route.

Our host at B & B Kaserer asked us at breakfast if we were going to attend the sunday feast at the Church of S.Cristina di Bolsena. As we wanted to go to mass anyway we decided to go and take a look.

The occasion was to celebrate the appointment of the parish priest twenty five years ago.

The church was packed with standing room only. Nearly all the parishioners wore the traditional Val Gardena outfits, unique and rich. After mass we congregated outside where a brass band from Bressanone was in attendance. Soon a carriage drawn by two very large black horses made its way to the small square, this was to carry the parish priest and Mayor of Santa Cristina.

A very picturesque, family event . The children were also wearing traditional outfits and they were very sweet.
Considering that this was not on our schedule it was bonus to join in this happy event.
