Salvatore our guide showed us the choir balcony where the cloistered nuns of the Benedictine order used to sing during services and then took us up to the cupola of the dome itself.
The guided tour is cheap (~€4) and you also get a great view of the entire city from its terrace and dome.

Adjacent is the former monastery (now part of the university) where you are free to walk in and explore the courtyards.
It is an astonishing piece of architecture in terms of both size, architectural solutions and emotional impact.

Someone once described architecture as 'frozen music' and this magnificent example of Baroque taste is perfectly aligned to Italian opera: dramatic, exuberant and emotional.
this was an impressive building as are all the buildings in the piazza well worth a visit along with the museums and other architectural delights on offer

It is a splendid example of this city's Baroque that begins, as you enter, from the holy water fonts, wrapped by towels sculpted out of marble with incredible detail.
A surprise was to find out that for a small fee (4 euro) we had the possibility to visit the church and a guided tour in the cupola.
