- onitadaWellington, New Zealand306 contributionsI grew up in Titahi Bay, so it was sort of a pilgrimage for me some 44 years later. There was not much of the Reserve back then, and one went to drink warm DB and Lion Red beer and jump over fires for a laugh on the beach.
Today the paths are a mixture of developed through to being a little on the gravel side, they are not difficult though, as I did see a woman with walking sticks along the coastal section of the park, which is also dog friendly.
Although the climbing section would have posed a few problems in that department. The wind can really give you a challenge on the wrong day. There is not a lot of native bushes, rather a fare example of gorse, which some of it came to a burnt ending. There is however, once this is traversed from the direction I walked, a wet land section, with a stream running through to Te Onepoto Bay.
The coastal walk looks across the harbor to view of Plimmerton and the marina. There are a number of seats situated along this part of the walk, so you can relax and take in the view, watch the wind surfers at play and such like.
The walk is well sign posted, so I would be surprised if one got lost. I forgot to mention the beach itself, and the vista views on the drive into this park, you will not forget it.Written April 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Much larger and more expansive than I imagined. Look out for any push buttons to activate animated displays.Written October 18, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JohnDeereQueenBay of Plenty Region, New Zealand73 contributionsThis is an excellent museum and art gallery for all ages. I highly recommend a visit! There is a children's play space, stunning art exhibitions which change regularly, very interesting local historical displays and high quality items for sale in the gallery. There is also a cafe on site which has friendly staff and a good selection of vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free items as well as the usual cafe items. The Porirua library with free wifi is also based in this building. Go check it out!!Written July 1, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ellinore1915Porirua, New Zealand63 contributionsI started off down at the bottom of the hill at Camp Elsdon Car Park which also has cameras installed for safety. There are 2 alternative routes to take to the Summit or Rangituhi. The easier one is quicker but, has over 750 steps which I did a couple of years ago and that was hard for me.
As I am in my 80's, I didn't want to rush it so, I continued upwards on the 2-way bike and walker's trail. It was an easy walk but very long, as it twisted and turned everywhere all the way. It took me 1 hour 45 minutes to the top and 21, 209 steps by my mobile phone. The return trip was just over 12 K's coming back the same way as I didn't want to do the stairs at my age. Bikers can go up one way so far but not downwards. They go back on another trail. Of course, there are always younger and fitter people who run up the trail. Not me!Written February 8, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ana CWellington, New Zealand13 contributionsOne of my favourite form of exercises is walking especially bush walking because I feel invigorated and at peace in the beauty of the native trees, the ambience, the serenity of the place, the birds, the stream and just the sheer and magnificent landscape of the New Zealsnd .
It is free and to be respected by everyone. Our country is not over populated and most people have the passion to look after our natural environment.Written February 22, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The only downside was the cafeteria onsite closed their main meal side at 2.00pm, while the competition went on until 5.00pm
The food was delicious!
Also had pool facilities a bonus. The stage & seating was great for the competition! Great location right in town, easy to find & good parking!Written June 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
