The view of Niagara Falls was absolutely spectacular. We captured some breathtaking shots from our hotel room and even more incredible ones up close. Visiting in July was vibrant and lively, with the area bustling with activity. However, when we returned in November, it was a completely different experience—quieter and more serene. The colder weather meant fewer crowds, making it easier to take in the beauty of the falls without feeling packed in, unlike the summer months when it’s jam-packed.

If you took the time to get to Niagara to see the falls, I highly recommend doing anything you can to get up close to really feel it and see it from a different perspective. The Journey Behind the Falls is a great way to do that. The tickets were a bit on the steep side ($56 for me and my wife), but I thought it was well worth it. You take an elevator down and come out near the base of Horseshoe falls. The is a spacious observation platform with outside viewing from the bottom of the falls. You can then walk along the tunnel to 2 stone portholes. The portholes are the size of the tunnels themselves. You are roped off about 15 feet from the opening. The tunnels are well lit and smooth…it’s an easy walk and I don’t think most folks would find it confining.

Just beautiful & magnificent views especially with the multitude rainbows when the sun hits the spray of the falls.

When you’re in Niagara Falls you will probably see the Rainbow Bridge. It’s not a multicoloured bridge, but a pedestrian and vehicle bridge that connects Canada and the US.

This is a legal border crossing and you’ll have to go through customs in the US and Canada. You’ll need to have your passport (and any visas you might need for each country). Crossing as a pedestrian from NY to Canada is free and the reverse route costs $1 but make sure you have cash; there is a machine to get the change from if needed.

Rainbow Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Typically, there are no delays in crossing on foot but traffic can impact delays crossing via car; especially during the holidays.

The Rainbow Bridge is also great for viewing the Falls & Friday night fireworks.

The whirlpool is a few miles down stream from the falls. It is where the river circulates around a bend causing a whirlpool. You can ride a cable car across the river and pre-covid times you could walk along the banks. Not a patch on the falls but if in the area worth visiting to watch the power of the river.

The view from the tower was exceptional! We bought the day/night pass and am glad we had the opportunity to view the falls from that vantage point two different times of day. The elevator ride was impressive as well. The only reason I have it a 4 is because we bought the combo pass which included the 3D movie. I would not waste your time or money on this movie. Both the plot and 3D images were very disappointing.

The story of the events of August 6, 1919 have been told many times. It was a terrifying night for the two men trapped some 766 meters from the precipice of the Falls. Moored on a rocky outcrop for a century, the 2019 remnants of tropical storm Olga led to record water flows in the Niagara River, causing the scow to move some 50 meters toward the Falls and turn on its side. The release of the ice boom in April, 2022 caused further breaking up of this valiant scow. Having beaten back the waters above the Falls for a century, what is left may soon have a watery grave at the base of the Falls. When that sad day happens, the scow will be gone but not forgotten.

We couldn't help but notice the Carillon Bell Tower as we crossed Rainbow Bridge from New York State in to Canada. The Carillon Bell Tower is part of the bridge plaza on the Canadian side. The Carillon Bell Tower was completed in 1947 and is approximately 165 feet high. There are 55 bells that have a total weight of 43 tons. At one time, there was a carilloneur who played the carillon manually, but since 2001 and renovations at the carillon, the bells are now automated and play three times a day - every day. The Carillon is played daily from at: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Carillon can be seen in the movie, "Niagara" with Joseph Cotton and Marilyn Monroe in 1952.

This is a nice photo opportunity. We happen to stumble upon it when we were walking around. Definitely safe area. Not sure I’d go out of my way to see it but worth the view and photos
