What travelers are saying
- Conny WylieOttawa, Canada539 contributionsThe Wickaninnish Inn is perched on a rocky projection into the sea on the edge of the Pacific Ocean amid pines and cedar. A Relais Chateau designated property speaks to the ultra class of the Inn as it is adored for its rugged setting, isolated local and the marriage of the wilderness (land & sea) and the Inn's real estate. Chucked right in the heart of the Inn is one of the most sought after spa's in all of Canada ......
....the Ancient Cedars Spa.
The Spa reveres nature as is evidenced by its design in keeping with the Wickaninnish's mantra to bring the outside/inside. Natural, soothing and earthy tones are incorporated throughout the spa facilities, and everywhere cedar beams show off rustic charm. The furniture is custom-made from repurposed driftwood and the artwork that fills decorative space is fabricated by local artisans.
The forest sheltered Ancient Cedars Spa offers treatments inspired by the regions indigenous people and that are immersed in the elements of the natural surroundings such as the hot sea stone massage, the organic sea facial and a collage of others.
However; the 'high heaven' ritual is the 'Hishuh Ish Tsawalk' treatment which brings together fire, water, earth and air in a cleansing ceremony.
I am a hot stone massage zealot and I have engaged in this treatment at many spa's worldly but this is the top notch version. It is a longer than usual routine..the longer the better and I was told that practitioners actually go out in the wild and gather their own stones and care for them like they were pets.....maybe pet rocks. Also there seemed to be a spiritual component to this ritual, regardless I felt energized after the session and inclined to say my prayers.
The spa is also host to daily yoga classes surrounded by the gentle smell of red cedars , fresh air and the rhythmic crashing of the ocean waves seemed to provide an energetic source of yoga fuel for my routines. The daredevil in me challenged me to perform a downward dog on the precarious precipices outcropping to the ocean.
The thought of teeter tottering on a rocky ledge at the edge of Canada was not for me.
Looking for a wellness fix that incorporates the majesty of a wilderness. backdrop with the healing techniques practiced by the West Coast indigenous people as well as exceptionally executed programs in a customized fashion by spa practitioners......
.......then try the.......Ancient Cedars Spa.......Written November 26, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. These teachers really know the poses and move slowly articulating each movement so we realize the benefits. Thanks🙏Written April 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- SarahGleesenVictoria, Canada1 contributionHands down this is the best yoga studio I have ever been practicing at. It is so genuine and makes me feel so at home. Totally including all types of people and giving them a yoga experience! Their main philosophy is: no pain - all gain. Struggling with back pain myself I can relate to that - and it works... It works for me. Practicing yoga with a well trained teacher is reducing my pain by A LOT! Just try it - you will feel better for sure!Written November 24, 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LizOsaka, Japan36 contributionsI love the hot room, the different classes and the different styles that the teachers have to offer. Once I found my rthyum I was able to connect with myself. Before I started going my shoulders were pulling into each other and moving my neck out of alignment. After months of going to yoga and learning safe ways to practice, my shoulders have strengthened and moved back on their own. The foundation that they teach here to make sure the body is safe and the joints are protected has set the bar high. When I go travel I am now educated to move into different positions safely no matter what yog studio I go to. Thanks Shelley and team ;)Written November 16, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Kathleen FNanaimo, Canada388 contributionsPnina is an excellent yoga instructor. She successfully accommodates people at varying levels in her classes. Everyone receives benefit whether new to yoga or at a high level of fitness. You leave knowing you've had a significant work out while feeling invigorated. Maximum blood flow is accomplished while she closely monitors students so no one is ever at risk of injury. This is an excellent thing to do while visiting Chemainus as she is very welcoming to drop ins and the ocean view is stunning.Written July 27, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VanIsle153 contributionsI purchased a month membership and was appalled by the extremely unfriendly staff. I went a few times thinking maybe they'd had a bad day or it was just the one person. Every time I went I couldn't believe how rude they were. Not helpful or friendly at the front desk. Very inappropriate front desk work.Written October 21, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
