EL PINACATE RESERVE IS OPEN, but...it can close after big rains and road washouts
We went to the entrance at Km 72. They would only let you visit if you had 4 wheel drive, not all wheel. Rains has done lots of damage to the roads, so they are being cautious.
They also worked out agreements with two local ejidos who will each charge you $100 pesos to cross their lands. NO MORE ROAD BLOCKS (hopefully.)
If you don't have 4x4, go the visitor center at Km 51. The visitor center and museum are all solar and very impressive. Two trails from there are nice. You can register and drive out to a parking and camping area to hike up onto the dunes. Spectacular views and great hike, about 3.5 miles roundtrip.

We took Del Mar charters out to bird island on a 30 ft Cobalt. It was a small and personal group of 6 of us. Knowing what to expect, we were there solely to view wildlife in their habitat and swim. It was a wonderful experience. If you appreciate nature and enjoy being on the water, you will enjoy it.

Beach access was hard to find but the view was spectacular. We enjoyed watching the tide come in and out. Quiet area not a lot of traffic. Was an easy distance to great eateries. Town was a couple miles away.

It's a great place to walk up and down the street and look at all their wares. It's less busy than the Malecon.

A Very Amazing Fun Beach To Stay At!! Vendors Everywhere, Some May Not Leave You Alone Until You Say That You'll "Come Back Tomorrow" To Buy From Them. Other Than That It's Great Very Clean!! Snacks Everywhere, Parking Is Like 1-3 Minute Walk To The Beach (depending) The Very Uhm Scary Part Was That When We Went There were plenty of dead fish, (catfish the most i believe, i think..)

Many Restaurants Are Near If You Get Hungry By Near Is Like 5-15 Minutes.

Other Than That Great!! Loved It Very Good Family Vacation, I Got My Hair Braided It was lovely, You can rent jet skis, atvs, horses, etc.

Many Families May Bring Their Dogs So WATCH OUT for that, last time i went there were these very adorable stray puppies at the beach they were all grown and everything like huge but telling from their looks they looked like puppies, Some people had Chihuahuas that would attack you.

    Beautiful Shells EVERYWHERE!!

Wow what a beautiful private beach! layered in shells all over the sand, people picking and choosing, visitors, residents alike but hey don't leave your trash, it amazes me sadly that I see people kick plastic bottles aside to pick up a shell or get up from their beach chairs and leave their trash on the beach have they no respect for this beautiful work from mother nature? The rolling surf, blue clear, kelp within the waves on occasion , clear ocean water I swam every day, its temperature to match the weather. I understand it's a private beach but going to another on the other side of the island, a public beach clean as can be., disappointing that for some who come to this one don't feel the same feel they have to keep this wonderful beach clean maybe someday they will

Great little museum. Friendly staff. Visit takes 60 minutes or less. Free entry, donation suggested. Interesting info on seashells and sea life in this area.

You need to develop a thick skin against all the guys trying to get you into "their" restaurant. I recommend driving past the main concentration of hawkers trying to "offer" you metered parking and park where things quiet down. In high season you'll want to go into paid or municipal parking.

The Mermaid's Market is a Puerto Penasco wonderful experience! Held in the heart of the city at Plaza Camarones (Shrimp Park), this open air arts and craft market is not only a great shopping experience for original, hand-made treasures, local cuisine, and performing artists, it is an absolutely joyous reason to socially meet up with friends and family during the best weather months of the year.

This is a relatively new facility, large, and with space for several different activities. We have been there for fundraising dinner dances. We have also been there for registering to board the first cruise ever from Puerto Penasco . Not only did we register, but they also had local vendors and state vendors with information about activities in the spacious open space when you first enter. Very nicely done.
There is plenty of parking at the site We had to pay for parking there during the cruise, but not at the fundraisers.
It is a very nice, new, open area near the high rise condos and on the main street in that area.

Love the art and new furniture - always quality pieces! We have furnished our contemporary home in the US with their furniture (special order) as well as our beach condo. The furniture/decor is incredible and always quality pieces.

I had a fun day visiting Bird Island/Isla San Jorge snorkeling and kayaking. I bought the tickets for Eco fun inside the Hotel Peñasco del Sol and I don't have a single complaint. The trip was from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the ride was provided with lunch and unlimited alcohol drinks also fresh fruit and pastries. They provide the equipment.
I'm planning to do it again on my next visit to Rocky Point.
