What travelers are saying
- Round_the_world18 contributionsBit of a challenge to find and get to. But for hikes in the San Carlos area, this is a really nice one. Work your way from the parking lot into the canyon and take your time enjoying the quiet and vegtation.
You will find the canyon comes to a split.
Right fork takes you to a (sometimes) water hole with some rock scrambling. You need to have some good mobility to get around, don't be afraid to climb on rocks and pockets to work your way up a couple levels further into the canyon.
Left fork takes you to a rock wall with a rope to climb up. We love this side. Lots of pockets and slots. You might think you were in southern Utah! There are some rock climbing routes higher up in the canyon for those who bring the proper gear. Otherwise, just enjoy the water holes and the super unique beauty of this canyon.
Depending on how aggressive you want to be with your scrambling, you can work your way all the way up thru the top of the canyon, but it does have risk and you need to have the right fitness and footwear.
If you have the time in San Carlos, and want to check something out away from the beaches... this is a really cool place!Written September 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Round_the_world18 contributionsYou can hike up the West peak from the Piedras Pintas beach. This hike gives you a mroe unobstructed view of the ocean and La Manga beach.
Hike up the east side from the obvious Kiosk and this gives you a better view of San Carlos, Guaymas, and still amazing ocean views. This is the more popular of the two hikes.
But whatever you do, do NOT miss this amazing vista if you're int he San Carlos area!!Written September 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Bob DEspanola, NM74 contributionsGreat birding spot with easy access from two different roads, one can pay a fee and get a guided tour of the area or use the road to the north with free access and just as good birding, great views to Tetakawi.Written March 2, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

City Cruncher PBWritten December 30, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Holly I10 contributionsWOW what a special place! We recently discovered this hike after living in San Carlos for 12 years. It is stunning! We hiked with our 10 and 12 year olds. They loved it! The Poza canyon is unreal that there are several water holes at the end of the river bed with a waterfall into them. This is a protected area so please go with a guide to get the best experience and know how to find it. It also is an Eco place. So no swimming and no trash. We really appreciated this! The drive in and hike in are breathtaking! The hike does get challenging with boulder climbing but not too extreme if you are a avid hiker. We highly recommend this!Written January 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- ann wDover, UK31 contributionsThe desert meets the sea around here and it was good to come up to the mirador to get the bigger picture. We didn’t do anything other than park and look at the view but were so pleased we did! We had binoculars so spent some time looking out to sea.....little fishing boats as well as pleasure boats.
There was food as well as souvenirs which we didn’t inspect.Written November 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Bob W2 contributionsEVERYTHING was perfect. Great crew, great boats, and great fish and chicken tacos. Thank you to Jimmy and Elias for the way they treated my 13 year old son. Especially thanks to Elias for being able to understand my not-so-good Spanish. There just isn't enough room to say everything. Can't wait to dive with you folks again!Written May 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- PatriciaMarshallPrince George, Canada4 contributionsWe had a great time kayaking this morning with Enrike and his staff..
The tour was well organized and well provisioned. Enrike is knowledgeable about the history of San Carlos as well as the flora and fauna, and provides excellent descriptions of birds, rock formations and local landmarks.Written January 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Holly I10 contributionsWe have a house in San Carlos and go about 3 times a year. Every trip for the past 12 years we have done a ride with Astrid. It is always a highlight of our trip. She is amazing her horses are the best. And to take a horse on the beach...there isn't too many places in the world you can still do this! I highly recommend this experience!Written January 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Kendra C29 contributionsThe shop is very helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them to anyone interested in Diving.
Plus, because they have a shop in Mesa, they are super easy to arrange trips from the USA. Also. compared to Gary’s, their prices at least for tanks are half the price. We’ll definitely use them for our next trip.Written October 9, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - stevedeboreLaton, CA4 contributionsWhat an absolutely amazing experience, Darren came out to our resort and he’s such a great guy.
