- Holly I9 contributionsWOW what a special place! We recently discovered this hike after living in San Carlos for 12 years. It is stunning! We hiked with our 10 and 12 year olds. They loved it! The Poza canyon is unreal that there are several water holes at the end of the river bed with a waterfall into them. This is a protected area so please go with a guide to get the best experience and know how to find it. It also is an Eco place. So no swimming and no trash. We really appreciated this! The drive in and hike in are breathtaking! The hike does get challenging with boulder climbing but not too extreme if you are a avid hiker. We highly recommend this!Written January 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michael EOakland, CA7 contributionsI took a tour of the Nacapuli Canyon with Mike as my guide both because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor and because he is a biologist. Let me say up front this is a hike that is mostly trail, but does includes clamoring up and down some boulders, so, you would be wise to wear shoes with tread on the soles and the hike is a bit challenging. That said, what an experience this was!! Despite the fact the the wider area receives only about 10 inches / 30 cm of rain per year and essentially is desert, the Nacapuli Canyon is a micro-climate which collects rain and actually has pools of water. Consequently, the flora includes palms and other deciduous plants which thrive in the canyon, but almost no where else. Mike, meanwhile, was awesome. Not only did he take the time to point out specific plants, but he explained what roles they play in the eco-system. One specie of palm, for example, form shirts as the palm frons die and hang down covering the trunks. Those 'skirts' serve as the home for birds, bats, and other small animals. There were plants with flowers which sustain a particular specie of hummingbird. There were pools of water which were some of the few places where Leopard Frogs live. And then, at the end of hike, Mike set up a table. covered it with a table cloth, and served ceviche and drinks !!! Mike was so friendly and knowledgeable, I simply can't say enough good things about him and the hike was amazing in the sense the flora and fauna of the Nacapuli Canyon are such a contrast to the surrounding area. This simply was a great, great experience.Written March 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Round_the_world17 contributionsYou can hike up the West peak from the Piedras Pintas beach. This hike gives you a mroe unobstructed view of the ocean and La Manga beach.
Hike up the east side from the obvious Kiosk and this gives you a better view of San Carlos, Guaymas, and still amazing ocean views. This is the more popular of the two hikes.
But whatever you do, do NOT miss this amazing vista if you're int he San Carlos area!!Written September 3, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But I'm absolutely sickened by the numerous visitors that bring unleashed dogs into this reserve and allow them to chase birds. They should respect this important and valued environmental preserve and its wildlife.
Better bilingual signage and some law enforcement presence is really needed to stop this prevalent but irresponsible behavior.Written January 11, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I love that there is fencing in between the courts so balls don't roll into each other's courts. The surface is asphalt, which is good on my knees. The pickleball community here is so welcoming and friendly. I really enjoy the social aspect of the club, including the BBQ evenings when we can play under the lights.Written April 17, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy TMesa, AZ3 contributionsFour of us all adults went riding at El Rancho del Desert Friday Feb 10,2023.
I cannot recommend enough that you take this wonderful ride to the beach. Astrid was amazing she went through all the things one needed to know when riding. The also spent time finding out your experience and matching you with the right horse.
The ride was great we left the ranch and walked to the beach, all the way Astrid was giving us information about the area.
The beach ride so much fun, the weather was warm, the horses were good on the beach. I would highly recommend this experience.Written February 12, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Ask for Elisabeth and Tao. Experts, so professional and provide the ultimate in relaxing, full body and mind treatments. Visit the steam room, sauna before and then relax with a complimentary drink and mixed nuts afterward in the quiet room.Written March 7, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emily B1 contributionMy girlfriend and I traveled to San Carlos for a little R&R and Carolina Garza & Vino Tinto Day Spa was absolutely perfect. They really went above and beyond to help us out - even waiting for us to arrive for our appointment on the first day (we had been delayed by highway construction), opening up for another appointment on Sunday, and giving us tips for how to best explore and enjoy all that San Carlos has to offer. What sweet ladies! Thank you Irma and Carolina!Written August 7, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
