This was an excellent trip from start to finish. The guide picked us up at our hotel in Tulum. We were 2 young women and felt perfectly comfortable. It was a small group, an Italian family with a small child, 3 college students, and my friend and I. The guide perfectly translated in both English and Italian while giving details about the Mayan ruins, then we headed to snorkel within thr same park as the ruins.
Before arriving at the park with Mayan ruins is your only chance to apply sunblock until after snorkeling, so bring a long sleeve swim shirt if you are concerned about burning. Also, you can’t bring any plastic into the park, so bring a reusable water bottle, not plastic.
After snorkeling, where we saw 4 turtles, beautiful coral, and rays, we left the park to get back in the van with the guide and drove to a cenote.
The cenote was excellent, with cold water and great stalagmites etc. Water shoes weren’t necessary, as they keep your shoes in a box for you to retrieve after swimming. There were bats in the cave, which were small and quiet. We also saw a Motmot bird in the cenote—a bird that lives in the cenotes and was sacred to the Mayans, as our guide told us. He said he’d never seen the motmot in this particular cenote before.
They had a small gift shop at the cenote visiting area, with tequila and honey samples. Our trip included an included lunch of tacos, offering veggie, chicken, and pork. Super delicious.
They do have a photographer take pictures of the group from snorkeling through the cenote parts of the tour, if you’d like to purchase them for around $55-65 USD (prices varied per size of your group/cash or card).
Excellent tour!! Would recommend to anyone looking to fit in a variety of experiences/sights into a short trip.
