It was on this trip I realized that Puerto Rico is more than just beautiful beaches and sunshine. There is also a rainforest. The El Yunque Rain Forest to be exact. And that this rain forest is up in the mountains. The El Yunque is beautiful and unspoiled. But that is not my review. My review is that this trip specifically has three elements to it. The first element is that the drive to the location is mountainous and exciting because it is literally a one lane paved road on the way up. The second element is that the once you are to the parking area there is about a mile hike further up and most of it is an incline. During that hike the guide explains the forest, the bamboo, and the history of Puerto Rico. And the last element is that to get to the water slide you will have to climb even more! But the view and the water is worth it.
Here are some recommendations
Don’t think you can just jump up off of a couch and do this hike. You will need some basic fitness.
Wear hiking shoes that have grip and are able to get wet and muddy. I saw people wearing Crocs, new J’s , and slippers. And was shocked.
Carry a backpack with water, a towel, snacks, and take your trash back with you.
Lastly, Catherina was the best tour guide ever she guided us safely through the rainforest and brought us back safely but someone really needs to fix the air conditioner in her van.
