- Joseph GMontreal, Canada5,202 contributionsThis is the oldest existing cathedral in the Americas begun in 1504 and completed in 1550. Built in coral limestone and in Gothic style with three naves and 12 side chapels, it features an excellent art collection of ancient wood carvings, furnishings, funerary monuments and jewelry.
A number of former Dominican Republic presidents are buried there.
This a function church and has a dress code and has a basic entrance fee of 60 pesos (free for kids).
This church is magnificent inside and out and is a must visit in the Colonial Zone.Written November 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Also has a very large Jumbo supermarket over 2 floors. - AidaSpencerHamilton, MA20 contributionsThis is the home of Colombus' son Diego, who was governor, kept in its original decor. worth the visit.Written April 19, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kory DWashington DC, DC298 contributionsThe beach is great and filled with locals and tourist. The local workers on the beach are a bit aggressive in selling merchandise and food; however there are private options like the Pelican resort and the new Hyatt that should open up in a few months. Those options you get a day pass. And use the beach area with food and drink options. We did the Pelican !Written March 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TroisChatsLiesKinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo4,648 contributionsWe enjoyed our visit to these beautiful gardens. The train ride (included in admission price) was excellent. It would be difficult to see the entire place without the train, because it's huge. The guide gave information in both English and Spanish.
Our admission also gave us a ticket to the museum, which was closed. That was disappointing.
This is a popular place for locals, as we saw many girls having photo shoots for their quincaneara.
Finally, the bathrooms were relatively clean, but water pressure was too low to flush toilet.Written December 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The central square is notable for its historic monuments and buildings, particularly the statue of Christopher Columbus at its heart.
The square is at the start of Calle del Conde, the city’s most notable street, and is a great starting point for exploring Zona Colonial and its historic buildings. It is one of the most popular squares in Santo Domingo. One of the plaza’s main draws is its wide-open view, with the Alcázar de Colón palace as a backdrop.
All around are cafés and bistros with outdoor seating offering an uninterrupted view of the square. The square lies at the end of Calle Las Damas, the New World's oldest paved street.
Surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants, and cafés, with a large statue of Christopher Columbus in the center, the paved open square of Columbus Park is a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists.
Large shady trees with benches underneath offer a place to sit, relax, and people-watch. Visit the park as part of a sightseeing tour of Colonial Zone highlights.Written March 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
