- Greg SCabo San Lucas, Mexico5 contributionsWe drove up to the falls on Christmas Day. Along the way we were intercepted by a vendor on a motorcycle that got asked to park at his place. After speaking with him a little bit, we decided that’s not where we wanted to walk in and drove to the top of the mountain. Like the other reviewers, everyone was pretty persistent about taking horses, but this trail up there was paid for most of the way and he just had to walk around some of the horse poop. There’s been so much rain here that the falls were so strong that you were not able to swim in. Still glad we checked it out. We paid 250 pesos to park our car and along the route we had to pay the Park entrance fee of 50 pesos each. Here are the GPS coordinates of where we parked at the trail head: 19.26426° N, 69.45778° WWritten December 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rick00001967Ontario, Canada960 contributionsi will say right away that horseback riding is not my preferred cup of tea. haha it is the wife that loves these animals. that said, we traveled here for our anniversary and her birthday so how could i say no.
we used this ranch many years ago when staying in the playa dorada complex. it was fun then and it was fun again.
they are very close by the complex so transport back and forth is quick and easy. we went in slow season so we were the only 2 riders which was nice.
the business has changed hands recently and the latest owner has apparently made some changes. they have some new animals and some update equipment.
the horses seem to be in very good condition and well cared for. so did the many friendly dogs that share the ranch.
both Angel and Alex have been here for many years and are great staff.
our booking agent originally had us booked with another operator in sosua. we were not too happy about having to travel that far back and forth so we were very happy when they changed at the last minute. we did not ask why.
pick up was on time. the pace was very leisurely. we had a beautifully scenic ride into the hills. some spots offered a great ocean view with a cool breeze while others were sunny and hot.
there is a stop along the way (thank god haha) to rest the horses (and the riders) where you can have a water or soft drink. beer is avail for purchase along some gifts if you like.
helmets are mandatory. closed toed shoes are always a good idea but if you only have sandals make sure they are secured strapped sandals and not loose flip flops.
this is a great way to see the countryside and much quieter than the buggies or atv's.
if you are considering riding as part of your vacation then choosing Lorilar is the right way to go.Written August 25, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Swinging on the swing was also a great experience. As a bonus it was also great go with the car up to the lookout, it was quite steep and I take that as a good experience and it was fun as well. I recommend to visit.Written October 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mat J10 contributionsDudu was much nicer than we expected. In addition to the pools there are well kept gardens with seats, hammocks etc. to laze about with nobody hassling you. We went on a Sunday in December and it was all very calm. Place is generally well run.
We got a guagua to the entrance and paid 350DR pesos each for entry. If you want a locker you need a physical ID as a deposit. Lovely swimming and snorkelling in the lagoon and a slightly over priced lunch. Definitely recommend a visit, we spent half a day. Could easily spend a full day. Probably the most relaxing place we found in the north coast of DR.Written December 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the day we were there, it was quiet so we were able to take our time through the jungle. Some climbing on dirt steps was involved but very doable. Thanks for the awesome tour!Written March 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LP148Miami, FL113 contributionsLet me begin by getting right to the point. I’ve climbed (hiked) Pico Duarte 3 times. It is NOT EASY. Every time I go I hurt for days after. I’m in exceptional shape and health. I do CrossFit and MMA (10+ years).
If you breathe heavily walking up a flight of stairs, do not hike this mountain. If you’re not in VERY good shape, do NOT attempt this hike.
Many companies lure people in with beautiful photos and writings about the trees and birds and so on. They talk it up as if it is a 5-mile stroll through the woods.
Reality is best. The first 4km of the hike is fairly easy. The next 4-5 is more difficult. After that you enter “Arrepentimiento,” which means REPENT. The tour companies never mention this in their advertising. Why would they? Even the most in shape of us will likely speak to God during this section of the hike. It is extremely difficult and steep. For 3-4+ hours you will endure one of the most extreme hikes of your life.
After Arrepentimiento you will enjoy a more relaxing hike, a natural water well, and then quite a bit of downhill walk until you get to camp.
The hike on day two up to the peak is almost as grueling as Arrepentimiento, just less time. It will take you about 3 hours to the top, and another 2 to come down to camp.
And then on day three you get to hike uphill for 1-1.5 hours before heading downhill for 6-8 hours. Going downhill for so many hours can be extremely intense on your knees, especially when the ground is wet or muddy.
If you’re not in shape I highly suggest using a mule to get to the top and to come down. You can walk and ride. Don’t kill your body or hurt yourself. I’ve seen people who are in great shape need knee surgery after this hike. I’ve seen people have serious falls. People have died of heart failure on this very “hike.”
For those of you who are in shape, go! Give it your all and see how really in shape you are…mentally and physically! If you manage to get to the top and all the way back down without using a mule you are one tough cookie!
As a side note, the views from the route and the top are breathtaking and unimaginable. It’s 1000% worth it, which is probably why I’ve been dumb enough to torture myself more than once. :)Written February 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. you do get to see really rural and quite impoverished people, especially the villages or those working in the sugarcane fields.
As a couple, we paid $170 which gets you one vehicle to share, kind of rubbish you’d both hoped to have your own (like some groups of lads did) luckily my wife didn’t fancy the drive so we where okay.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Ching Che S46 contributionsRio Sonador is a River about 30km away from puertoplata and sosua, this water is crystal clear and super refreshing. A place where you can enjoy and explore nature. When you arrive you will be charge a entree fee which is 100pesos equivalent to 2USD. After paying you will have a wrist band placed on you. Then you will have to walk downhill approximately 350steps. On your way back up you will have to walk those 350steps uphill... YIKES... but if you do not have the physican condition to do so, don’t worry you can rent a horse for 100pesos as well 2USD and ride it back up to the entry spot.Written April 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin S2 contributionsAmazing. Hard. If wet slippery. I hike a lot. This does not take 1-2 hours!! More like 4-5... I think the distance may need to be checked. Felt longer. Insane views.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ck1555Calgary, Canada67 contributionsIf your kids love pirates they will LOVE this show. Really good sound/music during performance.
They stop once to let people go in water then the second time to swim with sharks off a dock. (I didn't like this or like seeing dolphins in small enclosures...just not right).
But boat ride and show itself very good.Written November 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He played around with the monkeys too which shows he really cares about the monkeys and that his guests have a good time.
