- iowacityiaiowa city, ia1,647 contributionsMy wife and I were part of an Explore La Romana tour excursion bus tour. Our first stop was the Cave of Wonders. Upon our arrival, our guide led us to the cave, giving us plenty of info along the way. The cave was wonderful! Far better than what I was expecting. We had a decent amount of time in the cave. Upon exiting the cave you pass by an area with many Iguanas. Pretty cool for us. There is a restroom on site. I thought the cave tour was well worth the time and money.Written April 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Julie SMontreal, Canada151 contributionsExploring these 3 caves with our guide Lauren was interesting & safe. On the day we were there, it was quiet so we were able to take our time through the jungle. Some climbing on dirt steps was involved but very doable. Thanks for the awesome tour!Written March 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Diana4 contributionsBeautiful cave walking distance from Bayahibe! The cost is 200 pesos per person to enter the park, where you can walk a loop and visit 2 caves. The Chicho cave is the main attraction that you can swim in, and it has lovely, clear blue water. I would recommend bringing a waterproof flashlight as it is quite dark, but with a light you can really appreciate the interesting rock formations. Totally worth the trip. Just a warning there will be guides at the start asking if you want a tour, but you don't really need one as the path is well defined and forms an easy loop back to the beginning. The second cave at the end of the loop is not really a cave as you do not enter it, but it again has beautiful clear blue water with a large tree with roots overlying it which makes for a pretty picture.Written November 26, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DJtrinivibesBronx, NY1,437 contributionswe visited this beautiful cave from taking a buggie tour and it was well worth it. the picturesque cave is so beautiful. It had long lines with locals and visitors trying to get in the cave pool. I couldn't get to dive in cause my son did not want to dive so I couldn't leave him. but taking pictures and just being there was all worth it for us. Thank me later when you see this beautiful cave. enjoyWritten August 21, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kerrie Ann JBoston, MA138 contributionsWe heard about this cave from another couple at the resort and decided to go on adventure. There was a guide near the concrete structure that charged us $5US entrance fee. We met another couple on the beach that joined us. We were told it was a 30m hike but it was 45m.
It was May so therefore wicked hot. There aren’t any signs along the way so please follow the foot path. As you go along there are many small holes in the ground and lots of plants to see. We enjoyed seeing the huge termite nests and the cacti.
There is one small sign once you get to the cave and as you walk up you’ll probably ask yourself if this is really it.
Once you enter the cave (don’t worry the floor is solid) you’ll see the light at the end of the tunnel (literally). The cave is huge and opens up towards the end.
It’s absolutely breathtaking albeit hot and humid in May.
Definitely have a flash light (we used the flash lights on our cellphones.
As you head back towards the last 10m you can walk towards the ocean and finish your hike along the beach.

You definitely need a headlamp to see in the cave.
Beware of the “tour guide” Ray, who told us we must go with him or we will get lost. He was not wearing any kind of uniform from the national park, but being rule followers we said okay! In the middle of the path, he proceeded to tell us that this tour would be $70. We had no cash, and told him we would turn around as he didn’t clarify that the tour cost anything at all.
Long story short—after this experience, we learned that first of all, you do not need a tour guide on this excursion. And second of all, the path to the cave is completely marked and clear.
I have had groups of friends go there since, and as they know about our experience, they know to say no to Ray or to anyone suggesting they must have a tour to get to the cave.Written November 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a nice stop and great location for a cool dip in the water and brief history and free liquor and coffee tasting. I reccomend this for a small day trip. It is safe. We are from NYC and felt well taken care of here.Written October 2, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elizabeth SAtlanta, GA767 contributionsWe went here on a day when the water was choppy and only spent a few minutes there. It was cool but I wish we could've stayed longer.Written December 8, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
