Charming old city streets, forts, Lots of bars and restaurants many with live music, galleries with creative original art at bargain prices. Very safe to get around during day and felt safe at night especially if street wasn't deserted. Can easily navigate by foot or inexpensive pedicab. Area contains dozens of private pensiones. Many look shabby on the outside but are quite secure, comfy with A/C inside. Check carefully for museum schedules. Some are closed Sunday. Others are closes Monday.

Thankfully, our Airbnb apartment was only two blocks away from this charming square.

We were able to enjoy it lively atmosphere, street dancing, live music, shops, and delicious restaurants.

It is not too touristy as it is also enjoys by locals and tourists.

We ate at the restaurants on the Square and nearby four times .

Our local guide, Jay showed us exactly where Vin's car went over the wall. In fact, he was there during the filming because the studio paid locals with vintage cars to be in the scene. The Malecon was not that busy while we were there but it's an iconic view of Havana. After walking along it for a while, we hopped into a vintage car and Jay took us on a fun, informative Walking Tour of Old Havana as well as a special Cigar Tour near the fortress. He was the perfect English-speaking guide for a family with teenage boys. Highly recommend reaching out to Jay through WhatsApp +53 5 2647935. He plans custom tours in Havana and for all activities anywhere in Cuba you want to go - he will save you a lot of time and money.

Can't come to Havana and see the cathedral. the square is lovely and largely restored and the cathedral entrance is free. Avoid a lot of the touts trying to get you to their restaurants, as the better ones are off the square. The plaza is a straight line walk from Prado.

I visited the FAC with a large group during a visit with my university. The FAC is an interesting, open-concept mixture of a museum, bar, club, shop, food court. While I was there, I saw a fashion show and a dance class! It was really cool! I would recommend checking it out for a night - especially if you are with your friends. Everyone can find something to do here.

It is multi-level, so keep that in mind if you are bringing guests who have trouble going up stairs. It is also a little pricier than other places in Havana. If you are a tourist, come prepared with Cuban pesos (not dollars or euros).

This was a highlight for me while in Cuba. The art is just amazing and the way it has spread through the neighborhood is just memorizing. It feels more like an artistic town or haven than a neighborhood.

We were fortunate enough that our tour guide arranged lunch for us while visiting. This was the best home cooked food we had on our entire trip. It is not a restaurant so if you are interested have your tour company contact them in advance (small groups only). Honestly the lunch at the Fuster House aline is worth a trip to Cuba

I enjoyed this fort during the day. The fortress that protects Havana for centuries. The view is super ! Wonderful history and architecture.

At first look it is not but a huge empty space, but because it is meant to gather a huge crowd during celebrations.
The main icones are the two faces on the state buildings, also a good place to see the old cars which bring tourists.

Great for photos outside but we also bought tickets in the office across the road and had a tour inside. These are on the hour at set times. Our guide was very good and spoke excellent English. We found it an hour well spent to see the interior and hear some of the history

We enjoyed the Plaza Mayor in Trinidad. The history of this spot is exciting and tells much of the story of the Trinidad area. Wealthy land owners, slaves, sugar plantations, new types of farming, and vibrant culture. We especially enjoyed touring the Cathedral off the Plaza and the cobblestone streets.

This is the oldest of the four mains squares in old Havana and if you are in Havana you should see it. The square dates from the 1700's.

This is a a historical site, a fortress with a beautiful view overlooking the water and Havana. This visit will take about 45 minutes and will take you through many old buildings. I highly recommend this visit. The cost is about $3.00 dollars.

What I came to Cuba for! Really interesting to see the furniture in place and all Hemigway's books and possessions. Disappointed that the dining room was cleared of furniture as I really wanted to see that. Also the tower where he wrote was closed up. I liked the visit to the Pilar, his boat which is now in the tennis court.

The main thing though, although I knew about it before we visitred, was that one could only look into the rooms from outside. I can understand their reasonings. Was also disppointed not to see any cats arouynd as I was under the impressions there were dozens of them, descendants of the original Hemingway animals.
