- Master of FunkUnited Kingdom319 contributionsYou’ll get good views of surrounding areas such as Deep Bay beach, Williams Place and Galley Bay beach.
We were staying at the Royalton so getting here wasn’t difficult. It took us about 25 minutes to get to the summit. The hike itself is not difficult, you’ll need a fair amount of balance and there’s a rope to help you up the most challenging part of the climb.Written February 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were many different coloured and shapes of pieces available of this petrofied coral which is millions of years old. It was all beautifully polished.
There were also magnificent piecs of art done by the owner of the Zemi Art Gallery, Stephen Murphy. He was a great guy to talk to. You could spend a lot or a little in this shop.Written December 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The walls are pretty much intact, as is the magazine, but quarters are pretty much dilapidated and the several remaining cannons are almost pure rust. This is a DIY venue, freely accessible at the end of Runaway Bay. The views from this point are fantastic.Written March 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Love2travel1993Olathe, KS42 contributionsThis shopping complex we decided to go off of our resort today and do some shopping in the rain. So there is an area that has several jewelry stores with nice, higher end jewelry ( not costume) and a couple of souvenir stores and then there is another alley that has extremely pushy women trying to lure you into their stores. These are the cheap t shirt, key chain, magnet, hat, license plate kind of stores. Prices are generally listed in USD and seemed about average for what we have purchased on other islands. We purchased several items but my husband was so overwhelmed by these ladies that we eventually just left.Written July 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David SMiddlesbrough, UK2,398 contributionsNot sure if it was legit but $5 to enter a muchly inside renovated church but still a lot of work to do outside the building. Very atmospheric and utterly charming.Written March 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jan-Eric HLima3 contributionsTake swimwear and a towels along. It can rain or once on the Atlantic side of the island it can be choppy and windy. In all it was super fun. Great crew. Lots of drinks. I will do it again.Written February 20, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brentwood O2 contributionsI had arranged to watch the 4th day of the second test between West Indies and England at the 'newish' Sir Viv Richards Stadium, St John's when my cruise visited Antigua. However, our 'talented' England Team decided to have a couple of off days and the game was done in 3 days.
I decided to kill time and visit the old Recreation Ground which hosted it's last test in 2009. This was the scene of amongst other things, world record breaking innings by Brian Lara of 375 and then 400, also many tests were played here after 1978 with all of the famous stars on show.
I managed to enter the ground via an open gate, the venue was looking at best neglected although the stands and score board (with trees growing in front) were still in place the same as when used for cricket. A football pitch was laid out across the middle of the ground, apparently no cricket is played there anymore which isn't surprising as the once hallowed turf was appearing distinctly rough.
I then come across a very interesting local gentleman called Claud who has a hand in maintaining the ground and who has loving maintained an honours board in one of the stands which displays all test innings over 100 and 5 wicket hauls achieved on the ground. It turned out he is actually and England supporter and lovingly follows Manchester United. He recited his rather long full name which included Old Trafford and other famous English players both football and cricket, Claud was a really interesting character who gave some really interesting stories about the ground and made the visit well worth the effort for any nostalgic cricket lovers..Written February 11, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Its just a little further out than the Sir Viv Richards Stadium. There is a large Anglican church to see although it was closed today, which is set in a pleasant and shady churchyard.
Other reviewers are quite right that this is just a sleepy little fishing port with nothing of interest to tourists. However, the bus does a complete quartering of the town to pick up enough passengers to fill itself, often waiting for passengers to collect all their relatives and belongings for the return journey to St Johns. This unexpected town tour gave a delightful view into the way the gentle and polite Antiguans live and how they go about their business. Thank you Parham.Written January 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It depicts the bust of Vere Cornwall Bird, the first prime minister of Antigua who helped this nation gain its independence. Interesting but also not worth a complete detour to visit it.Written March 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alric MStratford, Canada8 contributionsAttended Mass here by mistake but unfortgatable experience. Had planned to go to St. Francis of Assisi but closed as everyone at Cathederal for new Bishop's installation. Building is impressive but music, service, congregation participation just out of this world. Attended by Gov. Gen., Prime Minister, and Cabinet. Counted 9 other Bishops involved. A memory of Antigua we will always treasure.Written February 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Charles SNorthamptonshire, UK1,039 contributionsOn our visit to the lovely island of Antigua my wife and I arranged a bespoke island tour and St John's was one of the many places our guide stopped at to show us.
The memorial is located close to the cruise terminal with it's gift shops and jewellery stores for duty free shopping. It was erected late in the 19th century to commemorates the work of Bishop George Westerby to celebrate his work for the Moravian Church.Written April 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It has a series of plaques around its base, which tell the story of the uprising and its horrific ending. Prince Klaas was executed by being broken on the wheel, a form of crucifixion. This site is well worth a visit and there is also an exhibition of artefacts and documents relating to the rebellion in the nearby Antigua and Barbuda Museum.Written March 10, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alseward53Axminster, UK369 contributionsOur walking tour of St Johns took us to this war memorial and I didn’t have a clue that many men from this area died during the 1st World War. Some of them were mere youngsters.Thank you.Written January 15, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Rodney PAuckland, New Zealand317 contributionsOne for the die hard Viv Richards fans. This 'national hero' has a bust to commemorate the significant contribution he made to Cricket. It's on the road named in his honour too. - Liz H1 contributionWe had a fabulous island tour with Dwight, who was so knowledgeable with the history of Antigua and was able to answer all our questions. A great way to take a look around and not have to worry about car hire or GPS!
We highly recommend Trek Tours to give you an overview of this beautiful island.Written October 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
